that is a really great image!
Thank you!
Hey guys! I got a job, I am doing models for a PC game called nightmare: origins that will come out in 2013 ! Here is their facebook page (you can see characters that other artist did for the game and get a bit more info on it) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nightmare-Origins/363444293726737
This is the headless horseman, It’s a boss for the game (he’s gonna be on a demon horse that I will do soon)
I hope you like him and don’t forget to go like their facebook page please! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nightmare-Origins/363444293726737
Thanks!
Hey guys! I started a quick sculpt between two characters I am doing for a game called nightmare origins (You can take a look a the facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nightmare-Origins/363444293726737 )
Anyway, I liked the quick sculpt so I finished it, polypainted it, retopo-ed it and made a render in 3ds max using vray.
It is the first humanoid face I’ve ever done and I like the result! Here is the render! I hope you like it!
One thing that I don’t like of this character is that my spec map wasn’t smooth enough so you can see the edge of it (I realised it after the render, I didn’t see it in the test renders) But it doesn’t look horrible so I didn’t change it!
Here are some shots from zbrush with the grey matcap so you can see the details better!
And here is the polypaint:
I hope you like it! It was sure fun making him!
Since it is the first humanoid face I made, do you guys have some critiques? part of the face that I should work more on? Or any critiques on the character/textures/ render…?
Thanks a lot for looking at the thread!
Hey guys! I started a new alien! I want to do a scene with a bunch of aliens that are sad/angry because one of them is dead (they will be in an abandoned house or something creepy). I wanted them to be humanoids because I want to practice human anatomy at the same time!
These aliens have a flat nose, pointy ears 4 fingers and 3 toes.
Here is the angry one:
I hope you like him!
Thanks
Hey guys! My angry alien is done! Here is a render of him in 3dsmax!
Before PS
After PS:
*I had to add the eyes in PS because I couldn’t render them properly because of the alien’s displacement map (they were hidden)
I hope you like him!
Hey guys! If you haven’t read my first post in this thread: I am a 15 year old Canadian boy who really wants to make his passion of 3D modelling into a job when he’ll be older! :)! I would really be thankful if someone could post a reply to any of my characters to know what I do well and what I should practice more! Thank you!
I Created a monster in zbrush, I was inspired by the remake of the movie “The thing” that came out last year, I really liked the monster with the two human heads merging together so I did my own version!
For this character I really wanted to give a “grotesque” feel to the anatomy, so I added insect legs, I cut the arms and added another set of arms in the middle of the body and I made the hands twisted.
The texture was painted by hand in zbrush, no projection was used (except for the insect legs), at first I tried to use human faces to project the texture onto the monster’s face but none were matching the screaming face of the monster, so I decided to hand paint it!
Here’s the render! (the render was done in 3dsmax, the post was done in PS and the not-so-good-looking BG was made in AE xd)
I hope you like him and I would like if some of you could post some feedbacks!
Thank you guys!
Have a nice day,
Xavier
Hey guys! I have some zbrush shots of my last character!
Hey guys!
Since it’s almost been a year since I started to make characters in zbrush I decided to redo the first character I did, which was an old alien bust.
Here is the first character I’ve done in zbrush:
and here’s the remake:
The render of the new one was done in 3ds max
Thank you for looking at my thread guys! I’d be thankful if someone could post some feedback!
Happy holidays guys!
Hey guys!
I did a new character, he’s my first attempt at hard surface modelling (it’s more semi-hard because he’s smooth), I was inspired by the knights in Halo 4 (I wanted to make my own version of a knight)
I called him: The alpha knight!
The modelling and texturing was done in zbrush, the render in 3ds max using Vray and the post in AE and PS.
The render didn’t turn out super great but I think it’s not that bad!
I would really appreciate to have comments or critiques please!
Thank you!
Hi. First I really like that you’re such ambitious young man, working hard and already determined to become a proffesional artist. I see that you throw all the stuff in rapid fashion, but this is not necessarily a good thing. Sketching is needed too ,but its really essential do to something more elaborate from time to tome.
Second - its really important to learn basics, I know that at this age your imagiantion is going crazy, but its really important to have knowledge of human antomy. You’re probably thinking that most of the things you do are looking - decent anatomy wise, but you know at the begining when I started 3d I was sure that my stuff lis looking great too, but then I had some kind of incantive and began to delve a little bit into studying human forms and it was the moment that I realised how wrong I was a how much much more is still to learn. At age of 15 you have all lot of time to develope your skills and start your career pretty early in your adulthood, but try to build your knowledge step by step.
Hope I didnt discouraged you in any way and that my advice will help you to materialize you dreams. cheers.
It’s good to see enthusiasm… but take the time to get a better grasp of anatomy, gesture, form, composition, color theory, before flying on the tangent of new fantasy creatures.
Although exploration is good, without a solid foundation even the tallest building will fall.
Good Luck Youngling and may the Fierce Be With You!
Thanks guys! I’ll try to work more on anatomy, I’ll try to build a strong foundation to all my future work! I’ll start doing anatomy studies, it would sure help me a lot…! Thanks guys!
Hey guys!
I started a new character. I am taking more care to the anatomy (please tell me if you see a part of the model that does not make sense anatomy-wise). I have to work on the abs (since I want the rib cage and hips to be really large and close to the skin, I am having trouble to figure how to place the abs).
The concept is that he is a “organic robot”, tentacles are growing out of him, a lot of cables a plugged inside of him and a lot of big cables are connected from the head to the back pack which is plugged to the “battery” (the box on wheels).
I was inspired by some characters from Kurt Papstein.
Here is a WIP from zbrush:
I am still working on the secondary forms, if you find any thing strange/bad looking please tell me and I’ll try my best to make it better
Thanks guys!
PS: Is the anatomy any better than my other characters? (I watched many tutorials and looked for a lot of reference before starting this character to, hopefully, make him nicer)!
Hey guys! I worked a bit more on my character! C/C are welcomed
Thanks!
You’re really good at kit bashing, combining forms to get new ideas… it’s good to be able to break from the norm and let your mind fly.
Just a little tip with regards to anatomy.
Remember that the human body (and animal body) has both soft and hard points. The places where your bones show are markers for the mind to say «aha this looks real» or for it to go… «uhm, well this looks like a blow up doll».
Now I know that there are books out there that push people into drawing the human body as if it were a collection of balloons, that this will lead to poor anatomy and very bad habits.
When you draw (or model) a body, take note of these «hard points», knuckles, knees, elbows, most of the cranium, clavicle, spinal column… you’ll see the bones pop through the skin. Try to emphasize this effect. Contrast your hard areas to your soft areas. This not only gives your figures more believability but also makes for a more interesting pattern of surface for the eye to look at. right now you make your models interesting by adding mechanical parts. Try this… on one of your next projects, do one without ANY mechanical or cybernetic parts, limit to just using bones and muscle. Give those hard point PLENTY of hardness to contrast with soft tissue areas, and also try to divide up your muscles into more marked zones, with less smoothness, make them slightly more contrasted and even planar in some areas. Mix things up a bit… I’m sure, no I can guarantee you’ll like what you see and that you’ll find a great way of building your forms both logically and attractively.
Keep pushing yourself.
PEACE
Thank you! I do see what you mean, I’ll try to put a bit more hard points on this character but for my next character I was thinking of doing a really skinny character to practice both soft and hard points of the body!
Thank you so much for your replies! I’ll go work on this character and I’ll post a new picture in a couple of hours
Thank you!
I worked a bit more on this creature, I tried to add more hard surface points (the rib cage, hip bone, elbows and knees) and I started to add a bit of details (still a lot to do: I’m still not sure if I should add wrinkles; it just looks strange on this character…)
Thanks guys!
Hey guys! I finished my character! I rendered it in 3ds max using Vray
For my next character I was thinking of doing a skinny tribe man character, he would have human anatomy (very skinny) with a long beak (I saw a model with a human face that had a beak and it looked really good) and maybe this character will be riding a quadricep monster, it will be really fun to make!
Anyway, thanks for looking, comments and critiques are highly appreciated, thanks!
Hi guys, I started a new character: the freak, this time I will limit my self to only an organic model (no mechanical parts).
The concept of the freak is that he is a mutant that has a bunch of different animal traits (the beak, he will have bumps on his back like a toad, maybe I will add big hedgehog spikes and fur, and many more…!). For the final render I want him to be in a winter scene (he will be crouched on a frozen river) with a small wooden stick in his hand , the camera will be looking down at him will he looks strangely at the camera!
Here are some picture of the character so far (I tried to use many reference for the anatomy):
C/C are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone! BTW: I will add eyelids later… right now the eye area looks really strange! haha
