Lately i was playing with Silo, but i made some small changes: i used only
two lights: a sun and a spotlight, to make the main tree stand more on the fore
ground i used fog , the reason for the two lights is the fact that fewer lights
seem to make a better 3D effect in Zbrush
Cool stuff!
Reminds me of the Cabage patch kids from the 80’s
BTW if you like Silo, you will LOVE wings3d
Lots of features, Plus one of the best UV mapping systems on the plannet… Plus you dont have to pay to beta test it all for FREE!

I had a copy of wings on my computer but i did not do much with it, only after
i started using Zbrush i felt the need for a good "old fashion"polygon program!
I’m very happy with the way Silo works and i don’t know much of UV mapping
i do all my rendering stuff in Zbrush, so in the moment there is no need to use
UV mapping features, and i believe that Silo is working on a UV mapping and
texturing feature, for their future release .

Wings has a bunch of other things that sillo dose not.
Scale radial on axis— Very handy tool
Extrude edge- Silo has extrude edge that I somewhat like… it leaves a Hole on one side of the extrude. Wings dose not do this… it gives you the choice to make the underside a Hole by just adding a material after the extrude. in silo is quite time consumeing to add a new patch over the hole.
Extrude vertex… I am very supprised that Silo dose not have this feature… great for teeth, Spines, spikes, hair, Etc… very useful tool.
Complex rotate features- Wings has a few ways to rotate things. you can do a conventional rotate and then there are advanced rotate that lets the user define a point to pivot the rotate… This is AWESOME for makeing hoses, wires, and such things…
Well this list is going to get very big if I keep typeing…
I stopped giveing feedback in the SILO forum after I realised that My only reward for helping them out is possibly going to be them Chargeing me more money for the product I help to develope. They are saying that at version 2.0 is going to have a price increase. I am saveing my FEEDback time for Open source GNU projects that wont charege me for the products I helped to develope. I am not sure if they are going to tax us for the upgrade or not, I am going to save my feedback untill I see that I am not going to be penalized for helping them.
I like how wings is a donation only program… if you like it you can name your price and send it to them VIA Pay-Pal. Over the years I think I have donated close to 500$ … Every time they improve or add a feature that I use, I wire them a couple of bucks to say kudos.
In the end it all boilds down to an artists prefrences… Silo is definately a good program… I own it, and I can definately see it being one of the best modeling packages out there when they are finnished with it (I wonder what it is going to cost people that point). There are a lot of people who already like it, and use it. I think it is cool in a lot of ways, I still find myself useing wings over Silo.
I drink Coke over pepsi, and I buy Levis over Wranglers
Have a good one
