Hi,
I visited http://www.cgarena.com/ and in a poll they are organizing they refer to Autodesk ZBrush.
Is that right? Is ZBrush from the Autodesk family?
Nice catch. I think they probably meant “Autodesk Mudbox” or “Pixologic ZBrush.” Likely just a typo. Surprising that on a CG site that they would make a mistake like that though. It would be interesting if there was something to it!
Give them time. Autodesk buys everything eventually.
ZBrush is developed and published by Pixologic.
It must have been a typo, it is changed to Pixologic now, someone must have had a clear moment
Thank God.
Autodesk better keep their dirty mits off of ZBrush.
Anyone been in gfx long enough knows never to say never, especially as Autodesk has a track record of buying everything up. Lets hope not though eh…
What’s up with Autodesk anyway? They now have three 3D packages that basically all do the same thing. How long will it be before they start consolidating everything and laying off the three separate teams that develop each package and only going for their more popular packages?
You know, give owners of XSI an “upgrade” to Maya or Max. It’s nice to think that Autodesk will keep on developing three different packages that all compete, I don’t think it’s viable in the long run.
Nothing wrong with them except I don’t want em buying everything. Some competition is good.
Around December, Autodesk put on a show in NY.
They do this every year, I have attended about 4 of them.
How they evolved over the past few years.
- All Maya- great show, demos of projects both upcoming and previously
made…these were fantastic. Great music, great food, Door prizes( I won
a dvd), shirts. - See 1
- Show was split into two groups Max, Maya, you went through the door.
audience was divided into two groups depending on your interests.
Less food, no music, one drawing, shirts. - Autodesk was hawking Mudbox, XSI, Maya,Max.
Especially Mudbox, others were kind of “alsoran”.
Made you stay until end to eat, no music, no prizes, nice shirt.
(It should be noted that one of the reasons I am kind of made to go
is that the shirt goes to my better half. I get a large, she wears it as
pajamas.)
People from basically each division were there. XSI people were not happy.
I knew one of them from a previous event and was told they were kind
of relegated to third in the order.
Now.
During these events a lot of the upper echelon executives are present.
You can tell who they are as opposed to the artists.
A. They bathe
B Their clothes have no holes.
C. They don’t eat the food ( always wondered about this)
D. They don’t grab a shirt ( really!!!)
E. They are eager to talk to anyone about anything.
So.
Being a Zbrush devotee, thought I would try to get the lay of the land.
Congratulated on acquisition, wished them luck, hope all goes well ( usual crap).
Asked about Zbrush, if, when, etc.
They mentioned frequently and grudgingly their admiration for the product.
Also mentioned having sent feeler to the company.
Were told definitely not.
Would not want to attend 5th show and find Aurick hanging up coats.
