Auto file recovery & windows 7

I’m just curious if Auto file recovery works on win7 now and can be enabled?

sorry, I need to bump this, since it is potentially a life saving feature

im also keen to know if this feature is now working properly under windows 7 in zb4.

I enabled it a while ago but Zbrush never crashes…
I have tried my best to destroy and rip a sphere into a huge inflatted galaxy
but Zbrush just keeps on ticking… Maybe ill get a crash 1 day and
i’ll let ya know.

are you running win7 64 bit?

Yes i am running
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit.
I’m not sure how it is supposed to work though.
I turned it on in Preferences:Performance and it
told me auto-recovered files will be placed in
the Zbrush 4.0/Recovered Files folder
Still can’t get Zbrush to crash to test it.

Can someone tell me a bug to use to get Zbrush to crash?

Ok i can confirm that Zbrush 4.0 Auto File Recovery does indeed
work on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

I finally got Zbrush to crash and it Auto Recovered following…

.ZBR = The Zbrush Document
.ZTL = The Zbrush Tool

And
UIState.TXT Which stores all your prefs, window size, and much more…

Auto Recovery does NOT work on my machine. :frowning:

Windows 7 64 Bit.

Basically as soon as I try to load something it locks up.

Getting the same thing here. Try to Load Tool…ANY tool…zb locks up after having toggled Auto recovery on, saving config file and resetting zb.

Win 7 x64

honestly, I find it slightly disturbing that there is still no official statement from Pixologic about it. The ZB4 release dust must have settled a bit meanwhile.

This feature does work.
The problem with it is you can no longer use the import/save
menus as stated above, but this doesn’t seem to be much of a problem
due to Lightbox being able to do most of the browsing/importing.
I’m sure that there are reasons why this has to be fixed but the feature
does work and it works great. Everything gets backed up and saved when
a crash happens.

Ok, so how do you browse with lightbox? Is there a way to copy/paste a directory somewhere?? I don’t want to have to click my way to my working folders on the server each time.

No doubt man. I found lightbox to be a real pain in the tush for navigating. Plus once you find what you’re looking there is no way to sort your files.

Really, having to use Lightbox to keep Auto Recovery from hosing your Zbrush is unacceptable. I hope they get things sorted out on the next rev.

But really. What’s the word on Auto File Recovery and Windows 7? If I have to use Lightbox to navigate my files I’m going to be mighty sore. With LB the way it is it’s like going around your ass to get to your elbow when looking for a file.

I yet again I just lost a bit work with a crash. Yes I save. Constantly in fact, in a serial fashion. However it’s those crashes that couldn’t have come at a more unfortunate time that can ruin your day!

Any work arounds? And in the long run are there any sign of Pixologic moving towards correcting this over-due bug?

yep. some official take on this would be really nice.

Or maybe better yet, they could just stabilize what they have. I realize Zbrush is pulling some serious Gs but man does it crash a lot.

I just hope they have plans to establish compatibility between auto file recovery and Win 7 64 bit.

please excuse the double posts. Can’t find a way to delete…

They do have an official statement on it.

http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Tips_and_Tricks#Auto_Recovery_Incompatible_with_Windows_7

that is an old statement for Zbrush 3.5.
Nothing official for 4.
Many people would have naturally expected it to work in Zbrush 4.

I decided to post here in between crashes. It seems my Zbrush 4 is trying to take me to madness… it crashes like hell!! I can’t really know why right now. I never used auto file recovery, and dont even know where to activate/deactivate it.

I’m experiencing crashes in ordinary stuff. Some of which i almost went crazy was in making polygroups from masking…almost everytime it crashed. Maybe its my model…dont really know. But crashes happen everywhere, to simple inflating, etc… Yesterday and today i simply lost so much work i cant even tell how mad i am right now :P… I hope the auto file really works with zb4 and windows 7.

By the way, in v3 there used to be the quicksave plugin, very handy for incremental saves, and quick too with a hotkey. With ZB4 what method are you guys using for saving (i mean quick saving, incremental style so less work is lost)
