Australian Funnel-web spider

Hi everyone…

Tonight I modeled an arachnid to explore zspheres.

Zspheres seem perfect for creating such creatures.

That’s a nasty little bugger! Looks Great!

I have never seen this type of spider except on the discovery channel. A very foul tempered spider to say the least. You nailed it perfectly. I know we don’t have those deadly versions here in the states, but I found a web a couple of weeks ago while visiting a cemetary in the hills of Alabama. Had graves from the early 1800s and even earlier. I had my son take this photo of a funneled web going into a grave. Was eerie being where it was and unfortunately we didn’t get the opportunity to see its maker. I give you this image as a reference pic. Maybe you can use it.

kind regards,
Ron

Great job Nathan. I have arachnaphobia and you made me get the heebies looking at that thing. Nice work.

Thanks Ron, Fluxist8070 and Njmaxaddict for your kind words. They make me want to model all the more!

Hey Ron… a funneled web into a grave… now that’s inspiration. Cheers for the photo. I may very well have need for reference like this if I decide to texture/render this guy, (female actually).

I live smack bang in the centre of Garigal National Park in the northern part of Sydney. I used to catch funnel webs as a kid and keep them in jars much to the horror of my poor mother.

I might try and model a few more Australian creatures and post them on this thread. Perhaps I can collect a few “specimens” this weekend… Although funnel webs will not be on the list for obvious reasons.

Might as well model what I know for now.

oh gross in a good way! love it!
