attaching two subtools and projecting the details on the new mesh

Hello,

I ran into this problem and I need a solution as soon as possible if any. I have two subtools in zbrush, one arms and the other hands, both separate meshes and both detailed. I want to attach both of them together as a single mesh which won't be possible in zbrush. So I want to attach them in Maya. Now after I attach them, I want to import them back to Zbrush and want the details to be there but this won't be possible since the vertex count will change. Is there any way to have the details that are present on the two subtools and have them on the new single mesh that I import from Maya. I would be really grateful if anyone can help me on this.

Thanks.

Hi there,

of course this is possible in ZB. Best option is using retopolgy, because it will give you a low Poly count. Merge the 2 Subtools together and then in Retopology just change the intersecting Polygons, to make it one mesh. You don’t actually need to retopo the whole piece.

Another way to do it, would be using remesh and reproject on the merged subtools.

Hope that helps.

ok well I merged the subtools and tried retopology on a little part. I tried to see the projection but I cant see any details projected. I tried retopo on the same model without merging the subtools and it works. Any idea what could be wrong?
