artifacting, mesh distortion

hi
please see attached image. when ever I use transpose tools this artifacting apears on the moved part. these are parts that are not masked, that have never been masked. they should just move without incident, but as you can see this distortion apears all over the place. sometimes it apears on masked areas too.

any ideas what causes this?
thanks

clear all masks…i know you said you did, but do it again

Also, transpose errors usually occur as a scaling issue. Check the preview window in the tool panel and see if you can see your entire mesh in that window. If you can’t (probably way too big) then use the deformations panel to decrease the size of the object (or use unify). Once the mesh is the right size it should transpose correctly.

If you have many subtools using the deformations one at a time can be tedious to say the least. You can get the plug in Transpose master to help with this. Hit the left/1st button (I don’t remember the name). Let it do its thing and then once you have one solid mesh, apply the unify deformation to that object. Then hit the right/2nd button to have the deformation applied to all of your subtools.

Hope that helps.

this happens mostly when you use lasso masking, but even transpose masking does it if using combined mesh through transpose master, zbrush blends your mask along ALL the subtools even if you don’t see it, its a bug/quirk. my own workaround is to always hide all subtools except one and do the masking one tool at a time, of course they are all polygrouped so its easier, it takes more time but you don’t end up with those artifacts.
also for best results when going into transpose master, try to have all your subtools having the same polygon size, it deforms better this way.

thanks for the tips guys. Ill see what occurs.
