Artifacting in zbrush

has anyone had problems where the mesh just starts to randomly artifact?
its not corrupted, it just randomly does it when i go up and down in subdiv levels. i open up other ztls and it does the same thing. the first indication of artifacting begins when i go up in subdiv 5-6, if i go back down in subdiv, there is more indications of artifacting, and if i go back up, it just destroys the mesh.
it might be because zbrush starts to run into virtual memory perhaps?

thanks

Could you show images of what you’re experiencing?

Also, what are your system specs? How many polys does the model have that starts the problem? What are your settings in Preferences>Mem?

My specs are Intel core duo 2.4 ghz T7700
4gb ddr2 ram
nvidia geforce 8600m gt

I have compact mem to 3500
maxpolypermesh 18.76

The mesh starts to artifact after subdivision 4. Then if I subdivide further and go back and up in subdivion, it will destroy the mesh
In other words, one artifact or point will shoot inside the mesh or outside the mesh, this point seems to make more points do the same, ultimately it just gets worse if i slide up and down in subdivisions. I’ve tried reprojection into a new mesh, but it seems the artifacting still continues. I’ve also experienced situations where if the face begins to artifact, then the other parts of the model, seperate subtools, begin to do the same thing and artifact. Sometimes it will not artifact at all until later in my sculpting session, it almost seems random and contagious like a computer virus. I’ve also noticed that with the layers, it will further create artifacts is i turn them on, but again it is random.
Do you think it has to do with my system ram? or the fact that zbrush runs into virtual memory?

thanks aurick

Any idea on this aurick?
It seems that with any other mesh i work on, it begins to artifact one point.
It happens when im hiding and unhiding polygroups.
I’m starting to think it has to do with my laptop?
What you think?
