artefacts after clay polish

I’ve applied the ‘clay polish’ command (with no adjustment to the sliders) to slightly strengthen up the forms of a simple model, and almost immediately after I’ve started noticing edge artefacts and pinching. I’ve noticed the exact same problem in the past but wasn’t familar enough with ZBrush to be able to work out what had gone wrong. Luckily this time I can undo and I’m not too far into the sculpt.

So just when could you use clay polish? It seems to me that it just causes problems =\

any ideas??

after using clay polish you might want to actuall step down to your lowest subD level and reproject your higher level details. As you noticed clay polish creates pinching that can distort your mesh to the point where it is unworkable. If you rebuild your higher levels from your lowest this should help fix the problem and keep that nice crisp edge you’re looking for without the pinching.

thanks I’ll try that. I’ve tended to use it early on in a sculpt when things are getting a bit ‘formless’ so I’ve no high detail to project most of the time. Even so it’ll be worth trying this, and bearing in mind that maybe clay polish isn’t to be taken lightly; in the past I’ve clicked it willy-nilly to see what happens. thats why I’ve run into trouble… moderation is key perhaps…?
