Here is an update, I decide to put some cloth on him, make a long time I want to do a medieval stuff, so why not taking my Arnold and doing a Conan version! So that’s what I begin. I update the face, modified the skin shader, now I have control over the redish color into the shadow on the skin, I can add more or less or change the color etc.

I did some lighthing test, with photometric light and portals light again plus ilb lighting test also and I make the skin on some render more reflective, on some less, nothing is final just playing around all in mentalray again.

I will do the all the fur,hair stuf with HAIRFARM, the best plugin of hair for 3dsmax by far! Very fast, realistic, full control over material and predictable.

So the Atlantean sword here I’m not using zbrush I want to save some ram cause I only have 4 gig… so the less I have displacement maps the more I save…
By the way the sword is alsmot not texturated for now, just put some quick textures on it, I will map that sword later.

The fur is done with Hairfarm a fantastic plugin for 3dsmax. Try it you will see, you actually model the air, like polygonal modeling and the volume created are filled with hair, so it’s has funny as modeling his hehe.

I’m blown away by the sword man… is it possible to see a workflow or wireframe for the sword? the pommel and guard are amazing… I’m having trouble imagining how to go about it!

But Ithink I will render him with Vray, the fastsss2 is awesome :slight_smile: here are some tests render, nothing is final! it’s only testing phase, and there is just 2 maps use, one diffuse and one bump, for the spec I putted a noise for now, and no sss weight maps. The front scattering of vray work much better then the one in Mr I found.

The shader do not work the one like in mr, so it take some time to get it work right.

SO I did a HDRI set up and only one light! and the result is great, much better then what I got with Mr and HDRI. I can change de hdri maps it always look great, so that is cool.

Cool but I think there’s too much sub surface scattering going on. The skin looks a little too soft…too translucent.

Teyon : I think the sss is just a tiny bit too strong, but not that much, look at people that have the sun in their face, you feel a lot of sss is going on, I watched my grilfriend for about 20 min with ray sun on his face and see how it react etc… and I’m not that far, I’m pretty close.

ior-calin: This is the Fastsss2 of vray, he contains many preset, some for skin ,ketchup,potato,milk,etc but you have to tweak it and learn it to know how it work and react to light, it do not work like mr.

Dryn: It’s only a test, to test the sss, there is no spec maps for now, only anoise, it’s why the lips are so shiny.

mahamb: This is vray, I think very do better then Mr, I have tried both and I love more vray, the front scatters SSS iw better then Mentalray.
