Hi people, I’m starting this one out as a question about adding detail to architectural models in Zbrush 3. I’ve had some trouble using Sketchup as a base modeling tool, but I found that the only real problem was vertices not being merged at export from Sketchup. So I had a friend who’s got Maya, to import my base model from Sketchup in a fbx file format. And then use the “Merge Vertices” tool in Maya to fix it.
So now I can import the exported model from Maya into Zbrush.
And I started wondering, cause I ain’t got many polys to work with since it’s so basic. Tried subdiving everything but ended up with a big rounded shape instead. But I tried to mark sections of the model and then subdividing. This resulted in the model being intact but gave me the added polys to work with.
After doing this alot of times, I ended up with a model which looks exactly like the mase model, only with lots of polys.
But the problem is, Zbrush doesn’t notice or register the subdivision levels when I do it this way. So it’s really no use since I can’t export the added detail as a displacement map. So how would I go about doing this? Also, is there a way of creating a base UV map in Zbrush? I think the one that’s applied to my model here is messed up. Cause I can’t texture a thing without the color being smuged all over the model. Thanx in advande people!
