Archer

I’m working on an Archer character following Scott Eaton’s tutorial. http://www.scott-eaton.com/. My character will be heavier, more bulky with a pose as if he is on a wall.

I’m just about finished with sculpting and will start the clothing sub-tools. This model has taken me about two weeks on and off to complete. As stated in an older thread, I purchased two books on human anatomy and two books by Scott Spencer. ZBrush Character Creation and ZBrush Digital Sculpting Human Anatomy.

I had no idea how challenging sculpting human anatomy is. Lots of frustration and starting over.

The image is a detailed view of the back. I will post more images as the project moves forward.

Rendered in KeyShot.

looks great, can we see it from the front aswell?

This is an edit.

Here is a full pose render. I worked on the hands and re-posed them. Also, redid the over all pose. I still need to do some work on the lower legs.

Is it me or is his head a bit small?

Feel free to comment.

It looks pretty good actually, I’m going to check out some of his tutorials also, I wanna get better (:

Incredible. Nice definition there.
What kind of clothing will be on the character?

Nice job on that figure…:+1:
You might want to get those chest muscles flattened out a little to get the feeling of stretching and pulling happening in that area.

Drawing Dynamic Hands by Burne Hogarth is a book that will make your life alot easier…Great Book, and teacher…You can get it on the internet…

Looking good. A couple of things that jump out at me. One is that the chest muscles don’t feel like they are moving up with the shoulder. At the moment that more akin to the arms being by their sides.

Also, Maybe if you make the eyes-brows and cheekbones less prominent it may make the head look correct. At the moment, the top of the head looks too big while the jaw and nose look small.

Hope that helps.

Kici: Yes, consume as much information and knock out as many tutorials as you can find. Also, make an investment in some sculpting and anatomy books. I have been hammering away at this for 6 months.

Toruk-Makto: I’m thinking a modern warrior look with a compound bow. Not really sure yet. Thanks.

SpiritDreamer: Thanks for the tips, will do.

Mxhaunted: Good eye. The head and left shoulder were bugging me. Also, Good tip on the elevated chest. I’m on it. Thanks.

More updates tomorrow.

Bowstring side elbow should be higher and farther back if you are going for realism. When you are shooting bow the scapula rotates and is under load, when the load is released the elbow falls back on a diagonal plane. If this was was an aimed shot of a bow with any significant draw weight the elbow needs to be higher to compensate for load. This is why a lot of “artistic” bow shooting poses look cheesy, they look like the subject is shooting a 5lb draw weight bow - sort of like drawing a subject shooting a pistol using their pinky to pull the trigger and thumb to hold the butt.

clever_guy: Great information. I will make it a point to research this. Thank you.

Here is an update. I reworked the left shoulder and modified the head and expression. Also, bulked him up a bit. Made it a point to rework the hands.

Starting the accessories for the archer. This is a leather Hip Quiver. Modeled in Maya.

I’m not an expert on the paraphernalia of archery, but it looks good to me. And i like the new expression.

Here is a site with some reference images for archery. This is more target oriented archery but you can see the general commonalities in the archers form from a number of different body types.

He’s looks good ,but i don’t know but it might just be me, that he seems way to muscular,is he a “heroic” scaled character,or realistic? ,just to me he seems too muscular to be an archer.

Historically the Welsh Yew “Longbow” had a draw weight of 140 pounds or more. The men that drew those bows were trained from youth, and were enormous.

damm thats alot,I guess its about right, its the legs i think, they just look a wee too bulky.

Coulde be taller?

Made him less Heroic and adding sub-tools.

I think you should pull down his underwear from the back a little more
