Applying alphas (best practices)

When applying a mask/alpha (that is created outside of zbrush via photoshop/zappLink or inside zbrush with Paintshop), I’m trying to decide which is a better route that allows precise placement of the alpha mask onto the mesh (but not manual). In other words, I don’t want to create it in zbrush, just apply it in zbrush. I just want something that gives me access to a coordinate system for precision placement (like in Photoshop or even in any other 3d app like 3dsmax, Maya, C4D or even bodypaint).

Ans also, have that alpha show up inside zbrush’s alpha palette.

GoZ might allow this along with zAppLink (even to access bodypaint thru Cinema 4d) from my understanding.

Thoughts?

It might not be the best option, but you could probably get more or less what you want by using the dragrect stroke with one of your imported alphas.
