Apply Normal Map

Is it possible to bring in a low res model that has a normal map already made for it… then subdivide the lo res model a few times and apply the existing normal map and have it deform the high res geometry.

Or… convert the normal map to a displacement map and apply that.

I have the lo res mesh, and the normal map but the Hi res mesh that the normal map was made from no longer exists and I want to add more detail to the mesh.

Thanks - Mike

You can’t deform based on a normal map.
You can convert the normal map into a displacement map inside photoshop (Nvidia plugin). I believe xNormal also has a function to do this as well. You’re not going to get a 1to1 translation when converting the normal map into a displacement map though.

3Dcoat has the ability to paint in normal maps on a model though, I believe Mudbox does as well. I believe Maya, Max, Modo, etc also have this function. Zbrush does not though.
