when I append a new subtool i’ve created it changes to the currently selected material ( or the material of the subtool im appending to) Is there a way to append a sutool that has a different material than the one im appending it to? I tried to use mrgb fill object but still when i select subtool A to be appended to subtool B it changes to the material of subtool B… anyone know a way around this?
Paint as desired first
thank you very much !
Provided you are correctly filling with material what you describe shouldn’t happen:
- Select the subtool you want to fill with material.
- Turn on Draw>M, so you are only working with material. This will mean that if you have already polypainted your model the color won’t be affected. (MRGB will work as well but will also fill with the selected color.)
- Select the material you want to use.
- Press Color>Fill Object.
That process will embed a material into the subtool and it should remain like that even if you append it to another subtool. However, note that:
- putting a texture map on the subtool will hide the embedded material (as well as any polypaint). Texture maps can have their own embedded material - you’d use the Tool>Texture Map>FillMat button.
- if you use the Flat Color material to fill an object then that is a special material that deletes the embed property - afterwards the subtool will display the selected material
- if you use the Make PolyMesh3D button to duplicate a subtool then the new version won’t have any embedded material.
