apatosaurus

One of the largest (or maybe the largest) living animal ever.

The lenght was about 20 meters and the height to the shoulders about 12 meters.

Modelling is finished, and was made with zspheres.

I´m not completely sure about the diffuse texture yet. Since all still existing animals like rhinos or elephants have a greyish and more dry skin, I choose this one.

I hope u like.

I also made a little video how I made the basemesh out of the zspheres, if you want to see it, I can post it as well.

looking great - please, post the video!

Actually this one is bigger, alot bigger. But otherwise nice modeling :+1:

very good… congratulations…

Hi pariah3D, VERY well done, it’s nice to see a good old-fashioned dinosaur. 50.

Excellent modeling, for the diffuse u could add some variations of grey color eg with the spray stroke.
Keep it up:+1:

…it’s very appetizing

Congratulations!!! Excellent piece!!! The modeling and the texturing is believable. Do you have any close-ups of the head and other parts such as the feet that we can look at?

Brian

Thanks for the comments!

I agree that I need more color variation in the colormap. The Spray stroke could do it
Maybe I´ll additionally do a diffusionmap to add some more color and lighting variation in the skin tone.

Here is a shot of the final wire I got out of the zspheres

I did some more tweaking for the skin and bumpmap and the shaders.

I gave him a more greyish skincolor like elephant or rhino bescause I think it fits better than the brown color.

Also I made the skin a little less glossy.

Further Suggestions and comments are much welcome since it´s still WIP.

I could make the video file size a little bit smaller, so it´s actually around 7 MB now!

I made a cut at the moment where I begin to make the highpoly. Otherwise it would have get too big.

I used the “Reference Image Script” of Marcus in the video which can be downloaded here:

:Dthanks you for the video im going to watch this :+1:

Nice modeling! thanks for the vid:)
What is that nifty polygon count window?

There is no such thing as one too many tut video  so thanky a lot for this great tut.

Hey there,

Sorry about the late response. I’ve been extremely busy wth my own work lately. The graying of the skin and the toning down of the gloss IS a lot better. Your dinosaur looks more believable. It would be nice to see renders of your creature at other angles and some close-ups as well, especially of the head. I think we’d be able to comment on it even more. Otherwise, keep it up.

Brian

Hey again,

I forgot to mention in my last reply, that I was hoping you give me your own feedback on some of my works in progress. It should be at this page: [http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=27401](http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=27401) under the title "More for Critique" I haven't gotten too many replies and I could use more feedback from people. Any time you can spare I'll aprreciate. Thanks.

Brian

Oh yes. I planned to give some words on that WIP anyway, but then I somehow missed it. Sorry, I´ll reply asap, to make sure I don´t miss it this time.

You´re welcome!

I finally finshed this beast. Maybe I´ll do a little bit more tweaking and maybe I´ll setup a little fighting scene between the apatosaurus and the raptors I previously made.

But for now the model is finished. I thank everyone for the replies and the critique and I hope you like the final result!
