Anyway to flip normals for Fibermesh that got messed up?

Hi,

I made some eyebrows for a character, they turned out to be too thick and was crashing the program I was using to render them with the character so I wanted to reduce the amount of fibers so I did that but now they look like there are allot of the normals reversed, since there are so many hairs still it looks like it’s got way to much shine but really if you zoom in there is a strange thing going on with the poly’s like they are reversed. Maybe they are not but it would be nice to trouble shoot this and figure it out before I head back to square one and remake them (and that’s allot of work, so I’d rather not if possible)

The screen grab below is from ZBrush but they look much worse in the other program!

Thanks for any help, tips or suggestions!

Hello @RAMWolff

You can’t flip the normals on a fibermesh subtool without breaking its live state and converting it to normal geometry, at which point the special fibermesh behavior and groom brushes will no longer work the same.

Normals can be flipped in ZBrush via Tool> Display Properties > Flip (visible polygons).

As far as your issue, I can’t detect anything out of the normal from the limited res screenshot and view. Understand that with long thin 2d geometry, it can be difficult to tell what’s going on because even if double sided is active in the Tool> Display Properties, the mesh will still appear to disappear if you are viewing it from the side. So as the strands get twisted, parts will seem to disappear. You would have to view the rendered fibers to see if there really is a problem.

It is not my experience that this is typically a problem with fibermesh strands.

Oh, the brows are already converted to polygons so that’s not the issue. Anytime I use fibers outside of ZBrush, which is always, I convert to obj format to import into other programs!
