Anyone else find ZSpheres/ZSketching clumsy?

Ok, so the new ZSpheres and ZSketch features in 3.5 are quite interesting and I can see them being used to great effect in getting a concept idea out of your head quickly, and just for jamming. I like how you can retopo over a jam session to get a base form or just remodel it altogether in an outside package, using the sketch as reference.

So, long story short, when it comes to precision modeling of a character I still find ZSpheres/ZSketching clumsy. I’m definitely more of a right brain person, but I still prefer using another software for making efficient models… you know with edge extrusion, vert pulling, etc. And, I’m new to 3d so it’s not old habits.

Anyone else like that?

Well sketches are a bit clumsy arent they?
Its not about building a model you may have a concept from even if thats
possible too.
For me its about brainless sketching that leads to something i like and maybe
model longer or do a retopo.
Its probably not something the industry will use but its definitly fun.
I find myself posing a zsketch for hours because it just works so well.
If only other companys would have weighting similar to this when rigging.

As a mac user, I haven’t used them, but I just wanted to say that it’s just another tool. Don’t hammer a screw. Just identify their advantages, and when a project arises where they’re more efficient than poly modeling, hammer away at the nail!

For instance, I can see that they’re brilliant for free-styling tentacled forms, Geiger Alien creatures, and complex muscle structure without having to plan anything. For making these types of shapes without a blueprint, they appear to be far more efficient than poly modeling. Again, though, I’ve yet to try them.

Hey, I find it very clumsy to use, but I got used to it, here’s my workflow for a bug for example. Stupidly clumsy but I like it  btw didn’t bother with the details. http://img64.imageshack.us/i/movie.mp4/

i found it to be very intuitive right from the start, and I’m not one who enjoyed using zspheres with previous versions of zbrush. To me, zspheres are finally useful, and if my art director hands me a concept sketch of a character, I know that I can bang it out in a matter of hours versus days. Everything from the basic character to accessories can be quickly assembled with zsketching and then taken right into a sculpting environment.

Personally, I think it’s the single greatest innovation that 3.5 has brought, and to me it’s even worth the loss of zapplink and decimation master (for now). I think it’ll be hard for them to top it in Z4.

We all know zpheres 2 should of been voxels instead. Seems like a step halfway there, if they were to put further work into zpheres 2, by time they have perfected it i would be using 3D coat
