Anyone else experienced problems with symmetry and dynamesh ?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has problems with dynamesh and symmetry?
I often have geometry that is “screwed up” on the mirrored side and smart resym does not fix it.
Dynamesh does not seem to handle symmetry all that well …

Minor asymmetrical variations in topology can creep in from time to time. To mirror actual geometry topology, use Mirror and Weld, not smart resym. Fix you right up.

Ooh, that’s handy!

It’d be great if it worked with masking…so you could protect a good eye, ear, etc.

Just use “Mirror” in the deformation palette to flip the “good” ear to the left first, then mirror and weld.

Or you could use smart resym to mirror whichever detail you wish to the left first, by masking that side or the particular feature you want to protect, and then use mirror and weld. Smart resym can be used to “mix and match” features from side to side. Just mask whatever portions you want protected on either side, an ear from one side, a hand from the other, and smart resyem will symmetrize those on both sides. It wont change actual topology though. For that you need Mirror and Weld.

Excellent! Thanks Spyndel!

Spyndel : Just use “Mirror” in the deformation palette to flip the “good” ear to the left first, then mirror and weld.

OK : why didn’t I think of that. That is awesome. :+1:
I already had tried Mirror And Weld but wanted to mirror the right side and Mirror And Weld mirrors the left side, so first doing a mirror solves it.
THANKS !
