Any tips for polypainting from imageplane? Coming out low-res...

I’m trying to rough in some quick textures for a Dinosaur and I’m loving the workflow with the Imageplane plugin and painting with ZProject. However, I have a few issues:

-No matter what I have the texture res set to, when I hit col>txr my texture comes out at 1024x1024 (I would like it to be 4K). What am I doing wrong?

-Despite my model being subdivided a high as I can get it with the ram I have, I still get much better results when I use the ProjectionMaster with the imageplane (which I guess bypasses coloured polygons) - Is there any way to have to the same workflow in projection master? (ie lining up your model and painting in selective sections) Like maybe using a colour texture as a stencil and painting through it with zproject?

-does your the resolution of your document effect the quality of your polypainting from imageplane?

-Any tips in general for getting the best possible quality in this workflow?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

to get your 4k image is simple

texture (on top) >set W & H to 4096>new.

your model should turn white, or whatever color you have selected. then make sure RGB is set to 100, then…

tool>texture>col to txt.

this will overwrite the color of your texture and place the new col>txt on top of the basic solid diffuse color you had before (pure black “000” is considered an alpha).

As for the projectionMaster…don’t use it, well, unless you need to. Use Zapplink. It gives you all of photoshop’s abilities, and then transfers the finished product onto your model.

not sure on your 3rd question as I don’t use projection master.

as to number 4, i never start my coloring on my model unless it’s at around 4-10mill so i never really have a problem. and if you’re getting major problems, try breaking up your model into different pieces to better handle your RAM limitations.

I hope this helps. goodluck
