Any solutions on how to mirror polypaint - zproject brush isnt working?

Hi - any help appreciated!

I’ve got a polypainted model where the polypaint is only on one side and i would like to mirror the polypaint across the x-axis so its identical. I don’t want to use the mirror and weld button because i don’t want to mirror the UVs.

I’ve tried using the Zproject brush tool. I use subtool master to mirror and append a new subtool to the original. I then select the original subtool, activate the appended subtool by turning the eye icon on, activate Rgb mode, then press ‘B’ and then ‘Z’ to select the “Zproject” brush. I’ve tried this with and without UVs, but all that comes out is black paint. I have ‘colorize’ selected for both models. I’ve tried both RGB and MRGB modes. I’ve even tried clutching at straws and changing the selected colour in the colour swatch to see if that had any effect -lol unsurprisingly it did not.

Don’t know if i’m doing something incredibly basic wrong or whether this is a bug? If anyone has any solutions to this it’d be extremely helpful and really appreciated - thanks!

I don’t know whats up with the Zproject brush, but you could just duplicate your subtool in question, use mirror and weld on it, then project that detail with ProjectALL, and MRGB pressed, back onto your original mesh with the UVs intact.

Hi Spyndel,

Thanks! Dont know why that didnt occur to me as an alternative! That worked pretty well - even after fiddling with the settings i had to click the project all button a few times to get the polypaint to transfer fully (which is why i guess people prefer the Zproject brush) but it did the job so i really appreciate the help.

As regards the zproject brush - i can use it to transfer it modelling just fine - but no matter what i try i just get black for the polypaint. Though i’d put it out there in case its some kind of bug…

The new default values in the Project All menu usually require you to increase the DIST slider a bit to get good results. I should have mentioned that, sorry.

Zproject brush appears to be bugged in the new version in regards to color transfer, unless they have changed the way it works and I don’t know about it, which is also entirely possible. As you say, it does transfer displacemnt just fine.
