Any other suggestions on improving my set up?

Here’s my set up:

  Mac Pro 1st generation
2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon
  6 GB 667 MHz DDR2 F8 DIMM
  ATY, Radeon x1900 Graphics Chipset
88 GB free hard drive space

I just installed 4 gigs today, making the total 6, with 4 more on the way. Although I don't think the extra 4 will help outside of multitasking. I will be freeing up over 100 GB of hard drive space that is taken up with unneeded versions of work. I don't think that will help too much either with 88 already free.

All I do know is that I'm stoked about being able to push the memory settings to the limits. Nice improvement on workable polycounts and smoothness. A few mil is as smooth as a few thou and 15+ mil is only slightly chopped up when navigating or using a click/drag brush.

Out of every art app I’ve used in my day, ZBrush is my favorite by far. :+1: I’ll be renewing my system within a year or three. For now, I’m curious if I’m at max performance.

first thing, get a pc  Bah, anyway, all that aside. Zbrush will only see 4gb of RAM anyway, so the extra is best used for video, and CS4.

The set up you have right now is more than you need for Zbrush.

Yeah, I know, but I’m greedy and want that super smoothness at 15+ million! Honestly, it’s hardly even choppy at that high or higher. I just like to move fast when working and any slight lag annoys me. Plus I think it’s more fun and more like sculpting when you can’t see polygons. It’s not that it’s necessary.

I use a hell of a pc every day in the printing office. Aside from cleaner product and OS design, the Mac’s no different for actual work and file handling, which is all I care about. For now, maybe 3.5 will bring on more power and memory usage for all. Maybe santa will also bring me new Mac Pros instead of another dirty chunk of coal, that bastard…
