Any good/relevant step by step workflow tutorials for ZBrush 4 to Max?

Hey folks

I’m really starting to pull my hair out now, made all the worse by the fact that I have a lot of hair. I’ve taken a week off work to get something useful done on my portfolio but it seems everything else has another agenda. My goal for this week was to take a model that I’ve been sculpting in ZBrush4 through to Max 2012 and render it with Mental Ray with the high resolution displacement and texture maps etc. Basically I wanted to make the results from Max look like the results from ZBrush (or at least as close as possible). Either that or make it so that I could use this model and it’s details to import into the UDK (something I have no experience with yet).

So I’ve got my model, spent a long time detailing it and sculpting the little details using HD Sculpting and polypainting a lot of nice textures and details on to it.

I created a ZSphere model, converted it to a Polymesh3D and imported it to Max so i could clean it up and get rid of all the tris. So I had a low poly model only with Quads and a polycount of 1864.
I took it back into ZBrush to modify it’s proportions and then started subdividing and adding detail. Around 4million polys I started the HD Sculpt, now I have around 122million polys and some nice surface detail with a nice texture on the model.

What I then do is use UV Master to create the UVs from my Polygroups which appear to be quite sensible looking UVs (as far as I know). Export all the maps using MuliMap Exporter - I do the whole lot, Displacement, Normals, Texture, Cavity etc as well as exporting the base SubD 1 model (1864 polys).

I take the model into Max and apply the maps as explained in a tutorial I found on Youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHAfcIihcDU

The texture map works ok but when I come to the displacement map I run into no end of problems. Using the values the guy enters on the tutorial for the displacement settings gives me a mess. So i turn them down and down but my model NEVER renders anything like my original model in ZBrush no matter what I do to the values.

So, i’ve come to the conclusion that I wanna start again, but I could do with a relevant tutorial to follow. I’m picking up bits and pieces from here and around the web but none of them seem to be of any use to me as they all seem to be using obsolete features of older versions of ZBrush from which I can gain no information whatsoever!

If anyone can help I’d really appreciate it. So far this week off has been a colossal waste of time and effort and has been far from relaxing!
