Any app that can read standard maps can read zBrush UVMaps ? right.

Any app that can read standard maps can read zBrush UVMaps ? right

Cause at the end of the day app’s read these
http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/tool/polymesh/uv-map/
same as standard maps, right ?

Thanks

The UVs are included in the 3D file, such as an OBJ file. Any program that can display a 3D model will be able to read the UVs.

The maps, such as texture map, normal map or displacement map, are just image files (JPG, PSD, BMP etc.). Any image editor program such as Photoshop will be able to read those.

Thanks for ya help .I understand how any 3D app can read .obj’s and standard uvmaps.

I’m not sure if I’m asking this correctly, so let me ask again.

Not all 3D app’s can read PTex maps.so I’m guessing all app’s don’t treat PTex maps like the basic standard maps.
So if I make a obj mapped with PTex.it won’t work in every 3D app.

zBrush has “UV Master” that I know will work in any 3D app.

and zBrush has “zBrush UVMap” that I don’t know if it will work in any app.
Cause I don’t know if any app will treat them like a standard map or a PTex map.

How does any app treat “zBrush UVMap” ?
Will “zBrush UVMap” work in any 3D app ,any render engine ,any game ? just like UVMaster.
Is “zBrush UVMap” & “UVMaster” the same basic map that all app’s can read ?

Thanks

Both UV Master and the ZBrush UV Map sub-palette produce standard UVs that can be read by any 3D program. The difference is that UV Master produces a UV arrangement that is ‘human readable’ (the UVs look something like a flattened version of the model) whereas the UV Map sub-palette UVs are automatic and mostly look nothing like the model (though that doesn’t affect their efficiency).

Ptex is a system of texture map display that doesn’t use standard UVs. Programs that can handle Ptex have been specifically coded to do so.

Thanks a lot for the info marcus_civis
