Antropus' Sketchbook

Thank you for all your comments guys.

I worked on a lot of aspects of it over the weekend, aiming to a more natural approach. Hair and everything else is pretty much in progress (I’ll add other layers to improve the blend between skin and hair, also adding some random ones to break the even look). The clothing was sculpted fairly fast, using primarily the clay buildup brush, my new favorite in ZBrush. Hair is ZB’s fibermesh and the render is VRay (did I mention I love VRay?). The face is now displacement, not a highres model anymore. Everything is temporary and in progress:

This is definitely a top row piece if I ever saw one.

Brilliant work from you as usual.

Another masterful piece of work. :+1:

Cool stuff dude!
I suppose the DOF should be less a bit .

It’s interesting that although the expression hasn’t changed, and it’s a static model and not a living human being, his attitude still seems to change when rendered from different angles or with different FOV’s.

It looks amazing!! I am really impressed!!

Nice model but this dof is so unnatural it cause my eye hurt

God I love this sculpt and the hair on the face on is a nice touch, but I feel like he looks way too waxy you might want to tone down the SSS a little more if you notice the corner of his eyes are still glowing and they should almost be the darkest part of the SSS.

By the way Vray is so good, I am falling in love with it too, are you doing vray for Maya or Max?

leaving me speechless …
love teh 1930’s farmer feeling

i love these words

great work! … Bama was new to me -wow what an awesome artist!

thanks!

Thank you guys!
About the SSS, hair, exagerated dof, this is far from perfect because it’s a wip and even the final version will not look perfect anyway. I’m more interested on the impression of life than anything else. The technical stuff is a minor problem and can be fixed. Lack of personality in your work cannot

The dof is a quick and dirty 30 seconds photoshop work, reason why it doesn’t look great. Could I render it physically accurate? Of course, if I had time to wait for it, but it’s a wip, so I’m not up for it. Wait for the final image
The clothing is a 40 minutes sketch and so on. Skin is tricky and I’m working on it.

In other words: this is a very cheap and dirty render, so no need to be so picky just yet

Just a few tweaks for tonight. Clothes are just a sketch. Hair needs a lot of love. Lots of work left, etc.

Hi Antropus,

I’ve followed your work for a very long time now, I think you’ve got some of the best work out there.
Any chance of us seeing a few viewport shots of the lighting? Or a breakdown of how you have constructed such awesome eyes?! They are amazing and sell the whole piece! (I know you have a tut out there for eyes somewhere… but im sure you have some new techniques.)

You are a true master.

Can’t wait to see more.

Looks great so far, I know that ss2 shader is so tempting but I think you could reduce redness of ss especially visible on his left brow. What amazes me most are his eyes. How did you achieved that sort of caustic light kind of look on iris ?

Great work! I am also interested to know the technique behind the eyes (not retina though, retina isn’t visible here :))

Wow…this is just Spectacular!

Killer!!!

I hear him sayin: Dey took ou`joubs

Max, ha! I love South Park

Ok, unrelated stuff, but since this is my sketchbook where everything goes, here’s a link to the new “The Avengers” movie.

They are showing the creature I modeled at the very end of the trailer. I also did the fine detail work on the HULK, brilliantly modeled by my supervisor Gio Nakpil. My work consists in displacement work only, so, unless you watch it in the theater, where you will be able to see the close up shots, there’s no way you will see those details in the trailer, but they are there!

Enjoy:
