Answered: Zbrush 4 won't save custom settings . .

Hi,
I open Zbrush, and customise everything to how i want it, memory, brush strokes, hot keys, and so forth, (including turning off ‘open at launch’ for lightbox’.

When I close the program and restart, it has kept the following: my hotkeys for brushes, and my memory settings.

It still launches lightbox even though a check shows that the buttons are all off.
All my custom brush settings are gone. as well as a number of other settings.

(yes i tried both ‘store’ and ‘save’ of everything)

I realise hotkeys has it’s own config, so can see why that might load properly seperately. But why would it keep ‘some’ settings and not others.

having to re-define all my brush pre-sets every time is really starting to chew up a lot of time, I generally just leave the program running 24/7 now to avoid the issue.

I have double checked that all the config and files are not ‘read only’.

any thoughts?
thanks peeps!

bik.

btw i can save brushes individually and then mass load them, but i would prefer them to stay how i left them.
and I reallllly hate lightbox, and want it to stop appearing.

edit: Actually, the brushes load in, and they are how they are supposed to be the first time I click on them, but if I click onto another brush, then back onto the loaded brush, the settings have gone, back to default. :frowning:

thanks

Brushes are not saved as part of the interface. Specific brushes that you constantly use (up to 25 of them) can be saved in the ZStartup\Brushes folder. They will then load every time at launch. Likewise, textures can go in the ZStartup\Textures folder, Materials in the Materials folder and 16-bit grayscale PSD’s in the Alphas folder. Up to 25 of each item can be set to auto-load at launch this way.

As for Light Box, it is a known issue that the setting for it to be turned off is not saving correctly.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I had tried saving my brushes in Zbrush4/Zbrushes
and also in Zbrush4\ZStartup\BrushPresets

I didn’t realise you had to make a new folder simply called ‘Brushes’.
I did this just now, and so far it seems to have worked.

Thanks for your time! I really do appreciate your help
