Answered: Z Project brush Help, pic inside

Hey Guys
When I use the zproject brush to transfer detail from one sculpture to another it messes up the mesh. It almost looks like it eats half of the sculpture when I use the project brush, both sculptures are almost identical but one is more detailed. Does anyone have any advice on how to avoid having this happen ?

It almost looks like you are projecting with Zsub on instead of Zadd but it’s hard to tell. The Zproject brush will only project straight out into 3d space anyway and is kind of hard to control.

I like Project all in the subtools menu better and I project only one level at a time and fix problems as they come up. sooo…

Load your target (the one receiving the projection) and your source (the one with the details) in the subtools palette.

Let’s say you have 6 subdivisions on the the source. Set the source down to level 2 and the target to level 2.

Click on the target so the bar turns black meaning it is selected. Turn just the eye on for the source.

Make sure no other eyes are turned on with any other subtools.

Click the project all button at the bottom.

The details from the source will transfer to the target.

Now step up to level 3 and repeat the procedure. Do this all the way up a step at a time and you will avoid bad detail transfers.

You can also mess with the Dist - Mean and PA blur buttons at the bottom next to the Project All button.

There is also a Projection shell button and farthest outer and inner buttons which are all there to help dial in the correct spacing for projecting.

Good Luck.

Thanks Mike, that totally worked. I seemed to have better success using the negative shell (outer) than positive with my head model.

Is PA Blur 8 still the magic number? Wasn’t 10 supposed to be buggy?

HAHA - i don’t think there is a magic number.

That’s so Zbrush!
