Answered: SmoothGroupImport ZBrush 4

Hi there,

Is the SmoothGroupImport plugin available in ZBrush 4 ?
Or is there another way to crease according to smoothing groups in ZBrush 4
that I don’t know about?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks !

That plugin was created specifically for Max. Since GoZ is now compatible with Max on both PC and Mac, the plugin was rendered obsolete and was not updated. GoZ automatically incorporates what the plugin did when it’s working with Max.

Hi Aurick,

I assume there are some settings somewhere that allow me to “tell” GoZ to crease different smoothing groups of a max model, since it’s not using the .obj export settings. Where can I find them?
Right now, if I export a cube from max with GoZ and subdivide, it just turns into a sphere !

bump! :stuck_out_tongue:

either I am missing something or GoZ isn´t transfering smoothing group information to zbrush - like tortilla1 said, I can activate SG information for the .obj exporter of max (2011), nonetheless, GoZ doesnt seem to send that info to ZBrush - didving just gives smooth edges everywhere.

I´ve read in another thread that the original plugin works fine in ZB4, but i cant download it anymore from the Downloadcenter

It would be kind if anyone could share or send the file to me!
Even better would be a tip on how to convince GoZ to do the job - maybe its just something trivial that I blinked.

Any help would be very appreaciated, the case is a bit urgent and a solution would save alot time!

Owing to last minutes technical problems I believe GoZ doesn’t support creasing of smoothing groups.

To download the Smooth Group plugin make sure you click the Show Plugins for ZBrush 3 button at the Download Center. You should then be able to download it without problems.

silly me - big-button-blindness got me here :o

thank you markus, that saved my day!
