Answered: Posing Characters with Subtools

So I’ve created a character with separate subtools (jacket, pants, ect.) and I’m in the process of trying to pose it. I’ve tried Transpose Master and it doesn’t work the way one would hope. I’ve seen the tutorials and read the brief documentation but selecting an arm with a jacket and cuffs and trying to move it all together is becoming very cumbersome. I have had better results with rigging in ZB but can’t seem to find a solid tutorial or workflow for using it effectively.

Does anyone have a solid solution for posing your character with subtools? I’d also like to store separate poses if possible or at least keep the default T-pose if I want to go back and change textures.

Thanks,
Mike

Which version of ZBrush are you using?

I’m using ZB4, I’m just now finding a workflow that Zack Petroc shows in one of his videos. Basically I’m deleting all the geometry that won’t be seen (i.e. arms under jacket sleeves) and posing each piece individually.

OK, next question: why is Transpose Master not working as you would hope? If you are encountering problems, I’d like to know about them. Otherwise it really is the best solution to posing a model with subtools.

I found posing cumbersome on a character that had a very high lowest sub d count. I decimated the high poly stuff (these were mechanical parts though) and that sped things up.
