Answered: Polypaint problems

I have a model of airplane what I’d like to texture using polypainting.

The problem is that if I up the subdivision amount to get 10 million or 13 million polys I start to get out of memory errors and crashes. If I use HD geometry I get crashes even more. If I don’t up the resolution, the ending polypaint isn’t going to be good enough quality.

I’m using Quad Core Mac Pro with 8 gigabytes of ram.

When texturing I want to use images so I think polypainting would be a way to go for me because I can take advantage of spotlight. But this crashing is problem.

Is is possible to do advanced texturing using projection master? Alphas and the simple standard brush in projection master are not enough for advanced texturing. There doesn’t seem to be even possibility to lay down texture images, only square alphas.

Would you have a suggestion for me?

By the way, for some reason my earlier posts seemed to vanish… it’s frustrating. I hope this message will survive… I hope…

Is your model all one subtool or did you model it in a seperate app then import it into ZBrush? If you modeled it in a seperate app and it consists of different groups then you can do a Group Split in the Subtool submenu to break your model up into seperate subtools and work on each subtool individually which will avoid the poly overload.

I imported from Lightwave via OBJ file.
This is a very good idea. I will separate wings, etc. and work through this method.
