Answered: Important question about creating objects in ZBrush

Hello,

I’m very new to ZBrush and to say that I’m having growing pains with this program is an understatement.

I actually have a VERY important question as I THINK this is the case, and if this issue is the case then I would stop using this program.

Let’s say that you’re creating a tree. You place the piece to extend a trunk from a ZSphere. You place another sphere above the said sphere but the initial trunk piece was either; just wrong, or isn’t working. Could you go back and readjust the first trunk piece?

If the answer is no. Then why in the hell can’t you correct a prior error? Because I know people aren’t perfect, but to find out that you can’t correct a prior error AFTER another piece is laid down seem pretty screwed up to me.

If the answer is yes. Then could someone please explain to me how to do this? This can be pretty infuriating to not be able to readjust a mistake (or choose a different part in the workspace) and would pretty much make this program useless to me (as mistakes can, and do, happen).

Any help would be useful.

Thank you.

When you draw a new object, the previous one is snapshot to the canvas as pixols. It’s no longer geometry, but rather paint.

What you actually need to be doing is using the Tool >> SubTool sub-palette and using the Append option to add the new object to your existing one as another SubTool. You can then rotate/scale/move the object as a whole or you can select a specific SubTool to edit that (including using TransPose to move/scale/rotate it independently of the other SubTools).

Earthshaker (one of the models in the Project tab of LightBox when you first launch ZBrush 4R4) is an excellent example of a model with multiple SubTools.

Ok. I think I’ve got it.

I think that, basically, as long as I don’t exit Edit Mode, I should be good. I think I’ve got it and I think I’m making some progress.

But I think I’m having another issue. This one doesn’t have anything to do with me, it has to deal with something weird happening when I’m using my Bamboo Creative. I’m using it and for a little bit the Bamboo seems to be working fine. Then out of nowhere the red pointer goes hay-wire and the program freezes.

Is anyone else getting these issues? Is this a Bamboo issue, or a ZBrush issue? Could I get some troubleshooting tips so that I could see if it’s a Bamboo issue?
