Hi,
Is it possible to make a polymesh3d straight from zpheres without making an adapting skin, so the shape made from zpheres is kept pretty much the same.

AFAIK, NO. Make PolyMesh3D is dimmed out.
How about exporting the zpheres to OBJ? I know it’s only enabled with adaptive skin, but maybe there’s a plugin or something that can bypass that requirement?
Unified Skin will keep the shape of the ZSpheres. How well it does so is based upon the resolution of the skin and the size of the smallest ZSpheres relative to the largest. (Less of a difference in size is better.) Either way, ZSpheres are meant to provide a starting point rather with which you block out your ideas before then skinning the model and starting your refinement/detailing work.
