Answered: GoZ and Max 2009 64bit

I have just upgraded to Z4 and installed GoZ for paths to Maya and Max. I’m on XP pro 64bit.

Firstly I can’t find any documentation about this feature - what does it install, where are the directory paths for temp models etc?

Secondly there is no way I can see to determine which app you want to link to. I installed Max first, then clicked GoZ, it launched Max with my startup scene. There are no buttons or categories I can see in Max for GoZ connectivity.

I installed the Maya path and tried again. It worked fine, back and forth no problems.

Now I can see no way to switch Max as the preferred link or any GoZ functions in Max.

Can anyone point me at documentation or offer some guidance please?

look for the “what’s new in Zbrush” section in your documentation folder.
Look for goZ.
read.
it tells you everything you need to know.

heh, thanks - can you tell I’m a Max user? The only thing they put in the ‘what’s new’ for max is your deflated bank balance.

That’s the biggest ‘what’s new’ I’ve ever seen.

ok, now that I’ve actually read the GoZ section I can say that it tells me sweet f.a.

Nothing has been setup in Max - no buttons, no menu items, no categories. There is nothing new in the shared folder (unlike the maya directory which has the shelf)

All GoZ is doing is launching max and a blank startup file. It says “files saved to disk” but I can’t find where they are saved.

I don’t even know what I’m looking for, is it a plugin, is it a macro, is it a script?

In here
C:\Users\Public\Pixologic\GoZApps\Max
there is a bunch of crap

This is supposed to go here
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\Scripts\Startup\Macro_GoZ.ms

This is supposed to go here
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009\SendEventToMax64.dll

This installs a GoZ menu in Max

There… now how hard would that have been to include in some freakin documentation!!!

idiots.

Hello,
In order to set/change the currently linked app, you can click on the ‘R’ button on the right hand side of the GoZ buttons line.

thanks Max33 - repeated installs did nothing. As stated in the previous post all of those elements needed to be manually placed in the correct folders.

Im on win 7 64 bit. Running max 2011 64 bit. All I had to do was install goz into the ZB exe that lives in the program files folder on drive C.
