[Answered] Displacement map taking data from lowest sub d not highest!?

Hi,

Ive created a model (human face) in max, transfered it over to zbrush, sculpted it, sent back to max with GOZ and set up the UVs put it back to Zbrush and now im trying to make the displacment map.

Looked at some tutorials and they click the pack UV options, but i havent done this as ive set my own UVs up. They then say to select the lowest sub d of the model (which i have done), set up adaptive, smoothUV and flip uv. Ive then hit create dispmap, only issue is once its finished im stuck with the lowest sub D and not the highest Sub-d like in the tutorials??

Can any one help?

Thank you

I think it might have to do with when i took the model into 3D max with Goz i edited the wireframe deleting some edges that had been added by mistake from me smooothing on the lowest sub-d. Its like zbrush doesnt see the new base mesh connected to the other sub d levels, but it will add the detail when i scroll up.?!?!?!

The proper workflow would be (sorry, I don’t know to which tutorial you are referring):

  • Create your base mesh in ZBrush or in another software. If it’s in another software, send it to ZBrush through GoZ.
  • Create your details and add your subdivision levels if needed for the creation of your fine details.
  • If you didn’t do your UVs prior to these steps, go to the lowest subdivision level, then send your model back to Max to create your UVs. If you need an application not supported by GoZ, simply do an OBJ Export (Tool >> Export).
  • When your UVs are done, send your model back to ZBrush through GoZ, or import it as an OBJ when your lowest level of subdivision is selected. (then ZBrush will swap the models).
  • Check by going up and down in Subdivision levels if your Subdivisions are still here (they should be…)
  • Go back to the lowest level of Subdivision and now create your maps (Normal, Displace and Vector maps must be done at the lowest level of subdivision while color maps at the highest).

Please post screenshots or more information if that doesn’t help.
