Answered: creating lace

I’m working on a female character that has a dress and i wanted to create lace at the bottom of the dress does anyone know of a good tutorial for creating the lace. I might have to use an alpha but I wanted to know if there was a better way.

In v4 you can use the shadowbox to create the lace pattern and then append to the model.

I will go with zsphere. Has a sub object they have the ability to stick to an other sub tool, it make a great tool for lace.
check on the beta tester forum for Zbrush4 there is very interesting stuff for rope and lace in it… sorry I don’t remember how post it.

Here is a link that will show you how to do what supermanu is talking about.

I had to make some lace yesterday actually, so I came up with this method. Pretty quick and effective. High poly lace though, you might have to adjust the method if you want low poly lace objects. This particular lace square was around 640k polys to capture the texture and sculpting detail in spotlight.

If you want lace that isn’t seen so close up, you can probably get away with much fewer polys and still give the impression of lace.
