Another Zombie (with a bit of climbing)

Hi,

Here are two images of a new little project I’m doing. After building characters in the bind pose I want to make something where the muscles are correct to the pose. Also to do a character with a more natural, realistic body type. Once this stage is finished, and texture added I’m going to zombie him up and tweak the pose in Maya.

He’s meant to be climbing out of a manhole, by the way.

Crits and comments on how and where to make it more realistic welcome.

PS, I will try and finish my other project when I feel I can look at it again without my eye glazing over.

Excellent work.
I specially like your anatomy skills. Good Job so far !
Im not so sure on the hair-do, though…
Anyways, really nice work. Keep it up. Hope for new posts.

Q1: What do you intend to do about eyeballs/teeth?
Q2: I also wonder if it would be possible to achive this kind of correct deformations of the muscles, by rigging it… like… tons of work, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Nibiru, thanks for the comments.

I’m going to remove one of his eyes and generally mess up his face to make him more like the undead (much like Jack from American Werewolf in London). The one remaining eye is going to be glazed over. They whole image is going to be black and white other for the bloody which will be a bold red.

People seem to like this half finished image I posted on Devart: So… I thought I might as well give them more of what they want but this time nice and Zbrushed.

And for rigging… Ack! I wouldn’t know where to start to get it working so accurate. I’d have to do bone and muscle structure and I can’t be arsed.

Here’s the latest version of the character face before I destroy it.

The only thing I noticed was on -his- left hand, his ring finger appears longest, and the pointer is disproportionately small.

Otherwise great work, I can’t wait to see more.

Vesence. Thanks for pointing that out. It could be the angle… or possibly his finger being bent oddly. I’ll look into it when I come to posing him properly.

This is what he’s going to look a bit more like. Still need to make him look a bit more… icky. It looks a bit too clean at the moment.

I think it starts to look more like you want it to be… zombeish  NICE WORK

Did you model the teeth in zbrush also? Or is this a Maya Render or smth like that and you added/modelled the teeth there ?

Thanks Nibiru

The teeth has a very simple cage mesh. It looked more or less like gumshields that boxers use. Then I added detail in Zbrush. This is rendered in Zbrush.

Crits and comments welcome.

Another update for the Zombie picture. I’ve been busy shedding his body. I decided to hold back a bit. The hole in the right hand side of his stomach is for a protruding intestine.

I’m hoping that he won’t look so clean when I add the layer of blood… lots of blood in strong red. He’s meant to have been slashed up by a werewolf.

Crits welcome as always.

Good progress.

Not sure what he’s climbing out of, but it looks like his fingertips are lower than the heel of his hand as if the weight might be on his fingers rather than the the main part of his hand.

If he were hoisting himself up on some sort of rim however, the hands are good, but if it’s to be a solid surface then I’m not sure.

Poor bloke that had to have hurt. He’s looking well cool. keep posting your updates, looking forward to them. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Looking very good…I especially love those chewed off fingers…:+1: :+1: :+1:

Enjoying the progression of the work.

billrobertson42, Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve tweaked it. It’s tricky getting the fingers to line up with the ground though. Actually, the whole process of lining up two object in Zbrush is tricky for me.

WENDEX2112, Glad you like.

Ron Harris, Cheers.

Here’s a quickie render. Seems this is another area that I have trouble with… to go with all the other areas.

I’ve tweaked the pose and imported it into Zbrush and have noticed a bit of distortion. So I’m going to go into the model a bit more and add more cuts and stuff to cover over the problems. It’s quicker than ironing them all out.

It has also come apparent that it’s not a good idea to divide sections of the base mesh as that can distort detail on the higher res version.

So anyway, this is pretty much the composition of the final image, just roughly put together. Please do give feedback if you have any ideas.

Hey man, that’s looking good.

One thing that can help you in aligning things are the info sliders. When you have object active with the move gyro, open up the info section on the transform menu. You can adjust the x,y and z positions to the fraction with the sliders there.

Although it still can be a pain because you can’t turn the whole scene to the side and get another look at it. :frowning:

Very kewl, MX…It’s funny that you posted him coming out of the street…I had a similiar picture snapped of me doing the same thing about a week or so ago…To make one of my boring stories short, I was in the passenger seat of a truck I was selling and as we made a left turn I had reason to open my door 3/4 of the way into the turn (forgetting I had my phone and wallet etc in my lap next to my door). We all the contents flew out and down against the curb. Unfortunately that portion of the curb had a large steel storm grate and all my goodies went down into the waiting sewer…(about six feet down). I couldnt reach thru the grate so I was able to loosen it and lean the 200lb grate against the trck. The opening looked big enough to slip down into to get my phone and stuff…Upon getting so far down, I realized I wasnt 17 anymore and the hole was smaller than expected…One more inch down and I would have had to have the fire department come out and rescue me…Fortunately one of the ladies in the truck was smaller than me and was able to slip down and retrieve my stuff…but not before snapping this pic with her phone camera…anyhoo…thought I would share…lol…

Can’t wait to see the painted version of this zombie pic. If that is a street and not a basement or something maybe add a manhole cover to his side of under one of his hands…

Looking forward to more of your work.

billrobertson42, Cheers for that info. I just had a go at using the info slider thingies and it helped a bit. Yup, agreed would be nice to have a side view so you can get a better idea of position. Also it’d help if the gyro would stay constant with the object. Also I’m sure the global perspective is off. It’s doing some odd things.

Ron Harris, You mad man. You’d never get me down the sewer. I’ve been in many an odd place but never a sewer. Too many rats.

And yus, there is a manhole cover. It’s now detailed and in this test. It was still a total arse to position.

ACK! and I still can’t work out how to get a little thumbnail to appear at the top of the screen. I is dumb. :expressionless:

LOL Mx, I wish the sewer was the worst place I had ever been …but I will save those stories for another time.

Love the additions to your update. This is shaping up very nicely.

Has anyone got a technique for drawing a layer of urm… blood… in zbrush? I’ve tried to do it with the Sphere3D Tool on the Freehand stroke. But it comes out quite harsh. I then tried using the Blur and Erase Brush but that pushed it into the object it was overlapping.

Any ideas?

I think you could soften the wounds a bit. I would use an inflate brush with low z-intensity and puff up the areas on top of the wounds. The bottom parts are fine. Almost ready for nice rotting skin though!

I’m trying to put together the final image… well… almost final. Anyway, I want it to be more precise compared with my earlier renders. The Manhole cover never looked quite right compared with the rest of the background.

I set the document to global perspective (little green cross), placed down the pavement and then placed down the cover. The problem is that when the cover is MOVED closer to you than the manhole it becomes overly distorted. Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks

womball, Think I’ve done what you’ve pointed out, although he’s not going to be rotting at all. Fresh kill, you see.

Other than that… I’ve decided to do the blood the old fashioned way. I.e. photoshoped.
