(another) How to export textures problem!

Hi All,
I am still fairly new to zBrush 3.1 and have followed a few really good tutorials from zClassroom and have created my model, now I am ready to export my model (no problems there) and the polypaint. As I understand it I have to create a new texture the go “tool:col>txr” which in theory embeds the polypaint into a texture that can be exported, heres my problem. after pressing “tool:col>txr” the texture; A) doesn’t really resemble my poly paint and, B) when I import my model (after exporting at subdiv1) into Carrara 6 the texture that I created using “tool:col>txr” looks nothing like my poly paint.

I have included a couple of screen prints for clarity:

Thanks to anyone that takes a look at this, hope someone can point me in the right direction! :frowning:

either take the image into an image editing software and flip it vertically.

or take it into Zbrush
texture>flipV

then export out the texture.

Thanks for the reply, but That doesnt seem to have fixed the problem, I am using zBrush 3.1 on Vista and zBrush 3.12 on OSX, I know there are differences on each platform but is there a benefit on one over the other?

I am struggling to understand what I am doing incorrect! Thanks!

The texture needs to be mapped to the models UV coordinates. I’m not a Carrara user so don’t know how you do it but there should be the option for this.
It looks like the UVs have been set out in zbrush as they aren’t ‘human readable’. Ideally the UVs should be set out in an external application so that you can then touch up if neccessary in an external paint program or to adjust levels and add different adjustment layers. This UV’d model can then be imported back into zbrush while still maintaining all the sculpting.

Hi Richard, it is a small world! I emailed you earlier this year for some tips on Blender and your movie dalek! Thanks for the help!

I am now going through zClassroom to learn from the ground up how to set/assign textures and correctly UV map any model.

How do you like the Davros!

Thanks for that link, yes it has cleared up some understanding issues I have! one more question however, how actually do I export a UV map from zBrush 3.12 Mac OSX???

I know how to on Vista, but I cannot find a ‘button’ to export on Mac?? Am I being an idiot?

Once you have the UV map in the Tool / Texture Map panel, Press ‘Clone Txtr’ button to transfer the image to the Texture Palette. You can then select Texture / Export to save as a psd/bmp/pict/tif.
By the way, the latest mac version of zbrush is 3.2.

Richard

thanks Richard, got it now! Thanks,
