Anonymous Voting and why its a BAD thing

I rarely post anymore, i still love visiting the forum and watching awesome art pieces, but it became more of a place for professional artists then hobbyists and that sort of reflects in the star system and 0 replies.

The forum back in the day was more of a group of ppl supporting and teaching eachother, i miss it too a bit, its one of the reasons i dont play with zbrush as often anymore.

Lot of great professional artists, with predictable images and themes.
With great technical skills, as much details as possible.
In most cases, beneath this heavy work, not much of real sculpting. No dramatic, interesting forms-shapes. No composition skills, tricks only, everywhere. They know how to sculpt a mouth, an ear, an eye a nose. But nothing that joins them. Only pores. I don’t like these, nothing much to learn except some tricks. It seems as these people never visited museums, not a great museum I mean.
So I don’t rate these threads. It’s not among my interests.
They found the way to become great artists, this is what they believe.
Lot of them tried to 3dprint their work, and wow fantastic they say. But these statuettes look more like a spaggetti-icescream hybrid to me. Details of a 6 feet statue on a 10 cm plastic. Having lost the basic idea in sculpting.
It isn’t the statue only, is the space around it. It is called SCALE.
Better start visiting museums. Start from Degas for instance.
Art goes backwards. The older the better. Indeed…
If I start rating these giving 1-2 stars, explaining the reasons, I could become a troll faster than expected.
Lot of them and most of all their supporters - fans, these are that rating with one star, without explaining, just for fun.

My suggestion is to stop the anonymous rating system now.
Rating through the editor only.

Even better, stop this ridiculous tool anyway.

BTW I rate too, *5 or nothing

Maybe what they need is a Sketchbook section divided into professional, hobbyist and beginner sub-sections. It’s pretty intimidating to post your first attempt at sculpting right after someone’s top row thread. Also it’s not just the quality of the artwork that varies between these groups, but the types of discussions.

I learn far more from hobbyists than I do from professionals because hobbyists tend to experiment more and have more interest in discussing their techniques and tricks. I could probably learn quite a bit from beginner threads but the more experienced members would have to drive the discussion because beginners usually don’t know enough to know what to ask beyond “How do I make it better?”

And really the only rating they need is “top row”, because without comments all the ratings from 1-4 are fairly meaningless.
