Annoying Zbrush issue

I had Zbrush 4r3 installed and had to remove it and go back to just Zbrush 4. Now every time i try and load any zbrush file saved to my desktop it won’t load up with Zbrush, and it won’t let me change the file to open with Zbrush. This even happens to files i just created in Zbrush 4. It gets annoying.

Thanks

Are you talking about having ZBrush closed, clicking on a ZBrush-created file and then Windows launches ZBrush to open the file? If so, no version of ZBrush has ever allowed that. If you somehow had Windows doing it in the past, that was a total fluke. It was not expected behavior.

If you’re talking about something else, could you please give more details?

Yeah, that’s what i meant, Thanks. And ow come Zbrush files don’t do that? Is it just something overlooked?

Double clicking on a .ztl or .zpr file in windows explorer and having that launch zbrush and load the file has worked since version 4 or maybe 4r2 for me, hell maybe even before that. =P

Here is a video showing it working

To help solve your reinstall issue of clicking on a file and nothing happening. You need to tell your registry to re-point to the correct zbrush.exe. I have had to do this many times after installing new versions.

in windows. Start > Run > regedit.exe
then under- Computer > HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Applications > Zbrush > Shell > open > command > Data > change the default data path to point to your new correct zbrush.exe location
here is a screen shot of an edited registry to point to zbrush r3 for my system

If double clicking on a .ZTL or .ZPR does not work for you, then the above issue is probably why. Your windows registry probably has your zbrush.exe pointed to an old/out of date location and so the file association is incorrect.
