Annoying WinTab service pop-up message in ZB 3 R3

– I have no tablet or any tablet device installed –

After upgrading from Zbrush 3 R2 to Zbrush 3 R3 i noticed that i get an annoying pop-up message in my Zbrush app.

The message says: ¨Wintab service not available¨

Its poping-out every time i load zbrush or select a new subtool, its so annoying that i need to sometime close zbrush and restart it. It never opens anywhere else other than in zbrush, at each and every new scene i greate same with new documents. I sometimes need to repeatly close it like 20 times before it disappears.

Its really frustrating if your in the middle of modeling and this thing goes on when you try to create something. I have never seen it anywhere else other than in Zbrush 3 R3 after i upgraded.

Does anyone knows how to turn this thing off ? Thanks

Same issue here,

whenever i unplug my tablet ZB complains like 20 times with that wintab warn ing. Have seen that box before but it only showed up like 1 time.
Don’t understand though why you get the error message when you don’t use a tablet. Weird …

I downloaded the following and installed it and all was fixed.
Evidently if your machine goes back to the stupid windows OS drivers for tablets then this wintab problem starts but exactly why seems to be a mystery to everybody.
google this file

pentablet_506-7.exe

Hey guys, I am having the same problem.

I just upgrade to Windows 7 and I can’t seem to find that download for 7.
Also I use a wacom Intuos 3.

Never mind guys. I got it figured out. Turns out i had two wacom drivers installed.Oops.

This worked for me too. I am also a non-tablet user. Page is here:

how to find driver for intuos2?

i have intuos2 and window vista.

first i installed the driver from CD. it is not work for window vista. then i go to wacom website and download the latest driver for intuos2.

so i can use wacom but zbrush showing Wintab service not available. and also photoshop cannot use pen pressure :frowning:

did anyone know how to fix the problem, please?

thanks indeed,

Great guys … after a week of soul searching i finaly got rid of it by making a search in my computer.

With the WindowsXp file searching option namely the F2 button i found a little file that was installed by some other app called – Wintab.dll … i deleted the file and Voila! Zbrush would finaly load and close normaly

Many thanks to all who took time to read my post.

(im typing this in case it helps someone else.)

Look for any dll file in your system called Wintab.dll it did the trick for me.

“Wintab service not available” is mean; Wintab.dll is not in Computer, i think. i cannot search Wintab.dll :frowning:

Hi ,

it seems that i have the same issue here .
it start yesterday the pop-up message, i had to close zbrush to get rid of that message .
today after restart my computer try load Zbrush and it seems that it refuse to load .
i use xp64 and i find two files known as wintab , at first try to delete them both but i got some weird message before shutdown my system on some missing dll . ( not the wintab.dll i removed earlier )
when i install the tablet driver they are back .
also try to remove each of them separately and still Zbrush not working :td:

it will be great if anyone find a proper solution for that problem

I’m not an expert with those bugs but i know how to format my compute :frowning:

thanks for any help

It as to do with an application that uses/installed/created a wintab.dll file in your system.

To get rid of this error, i did a search under windowsXP with the F2 button, you can use (Ctrl + F) in any folder and pin-pointed that i whanted to do a search with any file that uses the name Wintab.

Once my computer got to find the file i deleted it. And i never had any trouble since.

Try this and comeback here if you need help. We will figure it out.

i think, u have wrong driver installed. try to sent email to “wacom customer care”

thanks guys ! really appreciate your help !

freewaldo - i understand that it as to be related to some program that created the wintab.dll .
from my perspective its seems like the tablet driver created those Wintab.dll .
since i delete them and after install again the driver they back .
i did search with the keyword : wintab .
since I’m using xp64 i got two wintab files .
one of them is under c:/windows/system32
and the second one is under c:/windows/sysWOW64

as i sad before , i try delete them both and separately and its still not working, unfortunately.

zymyint - I’m using the latest driver from Wacom website .
and its work just fine since i got this pop up error
i will do this only if i’ll try every other possibility since I’m not sure wacom could help me with this error .

thanks again !

I did a new install of zBrush 3.5R3 on Win 7 on Parallels 5 on my iMac and got the same “wintab” alert error box. I disconnected my tablet (Wacom Bamboo) and deleted the dll’s found in a search. I reconnected my tablet, Parallels asks “Which OS Do I want to run the USB Device” and I click the Mac OS checkbox. Launched zBrush and the problem went away!

zBrush 3.5 is awesome.

to make it work on win7 64 bit, just rename the wintab32.dll to wintab32.dllbak
worked for me
