Anatomy pass

Spending some time trying to skill up with zbrush over the weekend - starting with a male anatomy sculpt.

looking for any info on presentable render tips out of zbrush as well.

cc welcome

This is truly impressive. To me this is almost perfect.

To me personally, however, I see a few oddities.

All of the following are my opinions only.

a) THE HEAD must be a tiny bit smaller, a very subtle change to the volume will do.

b) THE HANDS also may need to be just a tiny bit amount smaller. By this I mean a very very slight change in size. These subtle details matter.

c) THE CHEST. I get weird first impression of the chest, it is just not defined in a realistic way. Don’t get me wrong, this is an amazing achievement in sculpting, and most of the model almost has that realism feel, but the chest ribs and the chest itself could use more modification. I say it’s too defined. And this is something I had noticed before. When we sculpt, we focus on what we sculpt. In this case it is the anatomy. This “focus” makes us think “too much” of the shape, and we define it more than it should be defined. If you look at his ass and his upper back, I mean, it’s close to nearly perfect. But I cannot say the same about the chest and the mid-abs area.

d) THE FRONTAL VIEW. The hips need to be a bit more wider, I get strange feelings from looking at the part where the torso and hips connect, seems too flat on the sides.

In my opinion, this can be an incredible work if this model is refined in these areas.

But then again, only refine if you agree with me.

I find the proportions of this figure to be generally very idiosyncratic – i.e. not ideal, bu those seemingly of a very specific individual. The slightly large head, like the slightly short limbs, would be perfectly natural for a man of short stature. The narrow hips and large hands, again, could be interpreted as represenative of a specific individual. The only detail I would call into question would be with the length of his forearms, which actually are rather long here. It is normal for the forearm to be the same length as the foot – as I eyeball it here, I think that your figure’s forearms would indeed look better if they were the same length as his feet. I hope that these notes have been helpful.

I don’t see how the head needs to be smaller… it’s definitely more than 7 heads tall. A smaller head would be indicative of super hero proportions. I really like the surface detail. I also think the slightly larger hands look good, since hands and feet tend to look smaller.

What I’m wondering is, if this is the only pose the model will remain in… If you’re planning on posing it in a different pose, the surface detail will get in the way, since the muscles are in so much tension (like the legs). Maybe smoothing the muscle cuts a bit would help give the character a more relaxed look, but it depends on the objective… if it’s only a study then it’s pretty awesome.

I appreciate all the feedback. I’ve made a few tweaks base on your observations and comments.

(adjustment to forarms, slight adjustment to head and hips, also relaxed the upper ab area some)

to vincenzi - this is pretty much for basic muscle form study, no poses just yet.

Looking great. I really like the torso area. Knee caps might be a tiny bit too long, and the trapezius might be too high on the neck area. I think its great without any changes- maybe more sculpting in the hair is needed.

excellent model the muscles and the proportions are very accurate :+1: :+1:

Overall he looks really good. His lack of genitals is a little disturbing. His face needs a bit more work though to match the level of detail of the rest of the body. The weakest part is the eyelids. The eyes do not seem to be spheres, and the eye lids reflect this. The eyeball bulges out slightly of the socket and thsi is reflected in the eyelid. You can also see the thickness of the eyelid at the part where the eyelid meets the eyeball. The ear coudl be pushed more in terms of detail and the location seems too far away from the chin. The skull looks wrong sideways, since the back is too tall.
