I am doing all forms of traditional art for my whole life, and nothing is farther from traditional sculpting than zbrush, you’re holding a pen for peeps sake. Read Digic intervierw if you think I’m a jackass, and perhaps you’ll put the pieces together - they hire painters - why not sculpters? If you don’t know how to draw, you can sculpt traditionally all you want, and still have poor zbrush results. It’s a 3d (2.5  ) drawing program. Not sculpting, but I see that to someone that never modeled with hands it’s all the same if pixologic says “3d sclupting” it’s 3d sculpting  I don’t mind ignorance if it isn’t me who’s being it :laughing:small_orange_diamond:+1:

The traditional and digital work is great stuff. Good to see how the worlds combine.
Its great to see some real world fundamentals done so well.
I really want to get my hands on some clay too.

Hey Cherub, quote:“I don’t mind ignorance if it isn’t me who’s being it”
Totally agree man! :+1: ! Apologies for the thread drift Yansan  .

dustinbrown - thanks

Shmud - Thanks

CoreyCBrown - Thanks. yeah, sometimes it’s really nice to get to feel the forms as you’re making them.

Aberrant - Thanks

cherub rock - thanks, and also thanks for the honesty. I don’t want to get into it too much, i know there are some in dept discussions on the subject at sculpture.net, Ryan Kingslien actually has a discussion about it there. might be some on here, i haven’t really looked. I wouldn’t mind discussing it, but it might be better to do on another thread. but i will say drawing, painting, sculpting, zbrush, they all complement each other. I also know that ILM has hired both Illustrators and traditional sculptors for modelers, i think it mostly depends on the individual and the company. i think a lot of game company’s require modelers to also texture the models.

Etcher - Thank you very much. I’m flattered to be called Accomplished, although i haven’t had a job as a sculpting or modeling yet, except for a really small freelance job recently. I’m hoping to finish a reel soon so i can start looking.

Dman3d - Thank you. sometimes it’s nice to not worry about software problems , crashes and poly count and flow.

Here is the lady from before, i changed her one hands pose a bit. i might rendering her in different ways, but i think i’m going to call this finished. i could probably do more, but i don’t like the pose all that much and i need to try and get a reel together and look for a job. any takers? I’m hoping to attend the Florence Academy of Art next year and study traditional sculpture since i didn’t have the money to this year. I’ll probably look for freelance or relocation for a full-time job.

i don’t know if i mentioned this was my first female model i’ve done (on the computer anyway). but it is

Yansan…

Stunning work…both real world and digital.

Ignore Cherub…he has issues. I think his main goal is to get top row. I vote we all petition pixologic to put him there…then his work will be done.

very nice work man, i really like the traditional sculpts.

minister - id prefer a petition for banishment. aha

you are doing an amazing job man! Makes me want to readdress my Andrew Cawrse sculpt (which I’ve been wanting to do anyway).

Your forms express life extremely well. What school are you with, may I ask? I know that at least two of these projects are in the curriculum for Academy of Art University.

Great skills man. I think that you’ll have a bright future
Your clay works look very good and I can see a fast improvement in zbrush.
I would say that your problem was surface control, but this is just because of the adjustment period and requires a bit of mileage in zbrush. From your latest model I think that you are there.

Very nice art! I especially like the clay models!

good work!

She is beautiful. Wonderfully natural.
Cheers,

Beautiful work on the female model, very subtle pose. :+1:

Where do I sign? :laughing:small_orange_diamond:+1:

YanSan thanks for the comprehensive reply, but alas you get my point - if we get a flawless sketch/drawing in this forum it doesn't make top row by it's own. Zbrush is not a sculpting program, it's a drawing program which produces sculpts is the best way I'd put it. Of course sculptors can be used, but try doing your clay models with a pencil. I really don't hold it against you, but pixolator for calling it 3d sculpting, so you have people of new generations who actually think if they learn zbrush they can claysculpt as per se,and of course vice versa. But it IS so if you draw. ( I know it's all propaganda, you have all these drawing softwares, and another one called a drawing software would just be well another one, and it is a bit different, and sculpting sounds so convincing, but customers don't seem to get it isn't the real deal, that is my primary concern). Keep up the good work!

btw minister, your comments delude people, you praise half-decent work, hope yansan doesn't get affected by it, and surpasses your low criteria :laughing:small_orange_diamond:+1:

ministerart - Thanks

mikeportetti - Thanks

chris-carter - Thanks. yeah, i was at the Academy of Art, although i am not planning to continue studying there. I’m hoping to take some time off and work and save up to study traditional sculpture at the Florence Academy of Art. Which would allow me to more intensely study the figure and form (36 hours in class/ week. i also have a strong interest in traditional sculpture. at AAU, most of my 3d classes were focused on learning software i had already taught myself and i felt like i was learning much more in the few sculpture and drawing classes i had there.

undoz - Thanks, it means alot coming from you. i really like your work. I see that you are from Romania, I’m actually thinking about applying for a job in Bucharest, although I’m not sure about the immigration laws there. i see what you mean about surface control, i remember seeing it when i made some of those, but for whatever reason i didn’t try to fix it. actually my first model in zbrush i used the lazy mouse feature almost exclusively because i was afraid of that.

gordon-v - Thanks

Dman3d - Thanks

Etcher - Thanks

here is some better renders of the upper body and head. hope i can get show some more models soon, i have a few ideas i’d like to do.

Nice work. I’d like to see you soften her up more. She looks a bit hard and angular which makes her feel slightly less feminine. This is something I’ll no doubt struggle with myself when I start attempting females.

to anyone who may have been following this thread, i’ve just started a new sketchbook with my new username here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=84206
