Amateur having problems with texture/normal mapping, please help!

<img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”><img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>Hi, I’m having some issues with some work I’m doing for my final college piece, here’s how far I have got:

  • Modelled lowpoly basemesh in max.

  • Decided to take it into Zbrush for practice as I was planning on creating a normal map for it.

  • Ended up being quite happy with the highres model I sculpted, unfortunately I didn’t do the UV’s so I was under the impression I had to UV it in max and start over.

  • After a LOT of research and messing around, I managed to export the lowest subdivision back into MAX, I then created UV’s for it using Unwrella, imported back into zbrush successfully and it created a normal map for me, by this point I was buzzing.

Then I hit a wall, I lost the basic polypaint I did with my test piece, which was fine, I’ll just paint another, but for some reason I cannot add anything to the current file, it’s like it’s locked or something.

I can’t Zadd, RGBadd or anything, I have 1-5 subdivisions, and the UV’s i created are preserved, all I want to do now, is create a basic polypaint to texture, then export to max for rigging/animation.

I’m very new at this sort of stuff so I’m clearly missing something crucial, if anyone could help me that would be awesome.

tool>mask>clear mask
