Super looking sculpt Alterton; really like the coat. Was wondering about 3d prints like this- does the topology have to be as good
as for animation or does a model such as this get through the printer on topology derived from Z-Remesher? Also o you have
any tips on sculpting coats and capes like this so they are printable? I still feel somewhat confused though I can make a figure on
Z Brush; it feels like I am learning clay all over again. An uncertainty of whether I am doing it ‘right’ !! … Regards- Tim.

To keep things warmed, here is the zbrush model of the second version Hollywood Collectibles will release of the Cleric, this is the “Dead of an Acores”…

No worries Alterton. Cool art and sculpt; reminds me of Realm Of Chaos from when I was younger. It was a good set of books with
Otherworldly art including some early Adrian Smith stuff among others. very cool.

From epoxy putty to polystone: Thank you Zbrush!

As we are entering the paint master stage of the production of the Hollywood Collectibles Group Cleric 1/4 Concept pre-painted statue,
I felt somewhat “nostalgic” and wanted to share with you the creation process of the Cleric.
For those not familiarized with the collectibles industry, “paint master” is when you get an ass kicking talented painter to paint over a few
uncolored resin copies of the final piece to then be used as reference at the mass production factory for hand painting the final product
that will be out to the market. Most of the times, those painted samples are used for promo imagery to offer the piece to the collectors as
pre-order option. In this case the colored magic will be handled by no other than the legendary John Allred himself!!!

Now, the creation of the Cleric started after a phone conversation with a talented sculptor and a good friend called Erick Sosa. Sculpting
gigs were slowing down, so Erick told me “Do your own stuff, bro; and they will come”. I always loved to create characters and stories so
with no initial drawn sketch; I began to sculpt a warrior like character with epoxy putty, styrene half pipes and those clothing customizing
shinning sticker dots. And there he was; after something like two weeks later I got that skull masked 8 inches tall warrior holding a demon
like severed head and standing over the mutilated body called The Cleric.

01-epoxy-original.jpg

I created a story around him, which then turned into a whole world: "Minions"

As soon I wrapped all around, it was time to mold and cast the Cleric in resin, and then to do the paint master. My idea was to sell a low quantity
extra exclusive line of warriors with a cool unique packaging and a lot of goodies,

02-resin-cast.jpg

and this was gonna be a skecth done by the talented Silva bros and reworked by me that was gonna be included with the goodies…

05-silvabros-alterton-sketch.jpg

But the 2008 recession and international crisis took me by surprise and the exporting-importing laws became a pain for a one-man company to
handle all. So the line of statues was left behind and I focused myself into detailing the world and the characters stories.

By that time, and suddenly without any of us traditional sculptors noticing 30% of the collectibles sculpts

were done digitally, so I remembered my first boss and friend Digger T. Mesh prophetic words he told me when he first hired me “In a decade
everything will be done digitally, learn it punk”.

So I found myself modeling the Cleric in zbrush 3.1 while I was learning the software along with it. It was like magic, and everything would
change forever.

07-zbrush-first-model01.jpg

I turned completely to digital,

and while doing freelance work for the collectibles industry using the “new tool” I worked in my free time to bring to life the world of the Cleric.
Mark, owner of Hollywood Collectibles and one of my best clients asked me if I can came up with a cool line of characters for an original line of
statues, so I showed him what I have been doing thinking he was gonna say something like: “yeah cool, but let’s do something else” but he did
not!!!; he wanted to release a line of statues based on my story, so my initial dream became a reality: I redesigned the Cleric as I felt I was ready
to give him the final look thanks to what zbrush allowed me to do, and the confidence it gave me. My good friend, master sculptor and anatomy
genius Martin Canale helped me to achive the Character proportions I wanted to get!

11-zbrush-final-design.jpg

and the output masterfully done by Ownage!

14-output-sdcc13.jpg

I was also lucky enough to get an

amazing agent who helped me out and he was smart enough to tell me that after two despicable movies; “Minions” has another meaning I did
not wanted to get related to my creation! So it all changed to “Of Darkness and Damnation” and can be preview here http://www.railroadend.com/of_darkness_and_damnation.html

But not all end with a line of statues… as you can see there will be an alternative version of the Cleric statue; it will be the "Death of an Acores" version

So, where did that severed head came from? Well…

Thanks for walking with me this flashback!

It’s really nice to here a story where creativity eventualy wins at the end. I hope your line of statues turns out very successful and you’re able to repeat the experience

excellent work!

Back in 2011 I was trying to see what I was able to do with this new tool for me called zbrush so I did these sort ot sketches tribute to those who always have inspired me. You can read about it in this post http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?87754&p=850449&viewfull=1#post850449
So I thought it could be a good idea to share those ol’ ztls with you, so if you find them interesting and worthy you can finish them, modify them or what ever you want to do… feel free to be creative with them.

icons.jpg

I have seen here that some users use mediafire.com to upload and share stuff, so I used that file sharing site too, let me know if it is not working properly and I will find another way…

The 10 ztls are compressed in a rar file http://www.mediafire.com/download/r0bi4xedsfb595b/busts-ztools.rar

Hope you like them, and most important you enjoy them by being creative!!!

Very nice of you!

Thanks a lot!

my pleasure!!!

Once the piece have been printed - or the traditionally sculpted one -, molds of silicons are done with it and then it is casted in resin, most of the times three copies are done to be sent to the paintmaster process. The paintmaster is used as reference at the factory for the mass production process. The Cleric painting magic is being handled by the multitalented prototype painter John Allred!!
How about some teases?..
