I’m disabled, and hitting hotkeys slows down my workflow. I’d much rather do everything via the mouse, that’s why I hate the new shift for smooth in 3.5. Is there any way to make smooth brushes work just like the other brushes?
Is it possible to create a button that holds down shift for me?
Not being able to alter the key bindings and actions for the various operations in ZB such as masking, hiding, and now the smooth brush is very annoying. I searched for a way to do this before I got a tablet with configurable buttons. I can almost see why they do this for the wacky “Shift+Ctl, click and drag, then release shift” operations, but not being able to rebind the smooth key is a painful oversight.
As far as I can tell, your best option is to use an external tool to remap your mouse buttons (or if you have a tablet, assign one of the buttons to the shift key). A free tool for doing this is called X-Mouse Button Control:

Warning: I’ve never used that, and cannot vouch for its stability, functionality, lack of spyware/viruses, or table manners.
If that doesn’t work there may be similar tools available that may help you out.
