Alternative keyboard device for top of the desk. Looking for advice

Hello ZBrushers! I’m looking for advice on adding to my desk setup. The objective is to save time by not having to reach under my desk to press the keyboard for hotkeys. I don’t have the option to put the keyboard on top of my desk.

I recently added a drawing tablet/screen to my setup to replace my old tablet / stylus. I’m very happy to have done it but there is something bugging me. My desk has a keyboard that slides under the main surface and it slows down my workflow. So I have been looking at getting a device I can put on the side of my tablet.

I tried the 3Dconnexion 3DX-700059 Spacemouse but I didn’t like it because it wasn’t helping the problem of reaching my hotkeys. However, after getting use to the device, I preferred it to navigation with the mouse. So… I’m considering buying a 3DConnexion 3DX-700040 SpaceMouse Pro or other device. Hello @UnqleShawn,

If your primary concern is ZBrush, it should be noted that of your choices, only WinTab compatible tablets and the SpaceMouse are officially supported by ZBrush. I could not tell you to what degree, if any , the other devices might work with ZBrush.

Thank you for the info @Spyndel. Hopefully, WinTab won’t be an issue but, I will keep it in mind.

I use ZBrush but I also use a few other apps like Pureref, Blender, Photoshop, and I want to start using Clip Studio & Substance Painter.

After I made this post I remembered I had an older gaming (n52te) pad similar to the AULA Excalibur and hooked it up.

I’ve been working on finding a way to combine my most frequently used functions/hotkeys from each program so that everything is unified. Like, when I press the 01 key on the n52te that it will activate the, for example, Redo is sometimes CTRL + SHFT + Z or in some software, it is CTRL + Y. I want to unify all the keys so they all work under one key. Hope that makes sense.
