Alt key only works once during curve creation

Hi,

I’m trying to get to grips with the selection tools to create polygroups.

When using the masking tools (ctrl), specifically the curve tool, I can click the alt key multiple times to create a curve and double click to create a sharp corner as expected.

When i’m trying to select (shift+ctrl) I click alt and a curve starts but clicking again doesn’t continue the curve, it turns the selection from green to red (inverting).

Am I missing something or is this normal behaviour? The book i’m currently learning from suggests that you should be able to create selection curves in exactly the same way as masking, except I can’t!

I’m using a mac laptop if that helps (i know sometimes the reduced keyboard can throw up odd behaviour)

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the Curve stroke for Selection brushes does not work. As to why the Curve stroke is an option for a Selection brush, only Pixologic can answer that one.

To get the same stroke functionality you get with a Mask brush using the Curve stroke, use the SliceCurve brush with the Curve stroke. This is better anyway, as it results in smooth edges and eliminates using Group Visible. IMO, the Slice brushes are a better alternative for creating quick, easy Polygroups.

edit:The above (SliceCurve) is a quick method, but not always the best method. It depends on what your final goal is and what you want to use Polygroups for. It has its uses. The select, hide, Group Visible on the lowest subdivision is my preferred method as it gives polygroups without triangles.

Thanks very much. I’ll be experimenting :+1:
