Alpha texture limitations?

I want to import large alpha textures to displace a plane for Terrain Heightmap purposes… but when I load my 4096, 16 bit greyscale Heightmap.psd, the Alpha slot remains blank, even though it seems to have loaded. I scaled down the image to 2048 and same deal.

Any ideas? Are there known limitations to the Alpha image?

I think there is a limitation right now on 16 bit. It seems that anything bigger than 512 x 512 will not work in 16 bit. Convert it to 8 bit and see if it’s satisfactory.

8 bit is the death of Heightmaps… I’ll find another way~

Try setting Preferences>Performance>Preload File Size to its highest value and try again. Note that I don’t think the new setting will store with the config.
