Alpha mask on curved surfaces

When I apply a alpha mask on a curved surface it projects down and it becomes deformed. Is there any way I could project as if it was a texture conforming to the curvature of the object I’m projecting the alpha mask? I’m applying a mask on a ring and I want it to go around the ring as if it was a decal.

Thanks

If your model has UVs then you can apply the alpha directly as a mask by using Tool>Masking>Mask By Alpha:
http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/tool/polymesh/masking/

Your alpha will need to correspond correctly to the UV map.

Thanks. How do I check if my model has UV?

A quick way is to expand the Tool: UV Map subpalette. If Delete UV and Morph UV are not super grayed out, then you have UVs.

Thanks again…one more questions, in this page http://docs.pixologic.com/reference-guide/tool/polymesh/masking/ do you know what the “alp” button is? Is this a typo? Do they mean the alt button, but that doesn’t wrap the mask…

Thanks

Thanks for pointing that out. It is a typo (actually left over from an early version of ZBrush), and it should read ‘Mask By Alpha’. I’ll correct it ASAP.
