Aligning subtools and scaling problems

hi guys,

i have accidentaly offseted a symetrical object away from x,z 0,0 and although local symmetry still works i was wondering if there was a way to auto align to x y z =0?
Also i have issues with obj exported from zbrush to Maya landing in Maya in arbitrary scales and position…is there something i am missing here?
Thank you in advance

P.

You can use Tool>Deformation>Unify, though note that this will also scale the object. It will only work with the selected subtool. If you’ve got subtools you can use Transpose Master to make sure the same offset/scaling is applied to all subtools.

There is also the Tool>Deformation>Offset slider. If you switch on the Floor you will see there are colored axis lines at the origin. You can make these longer by adjusting the Axis slider in the Draw palette. These will hep you reposition your model.

Hi Marcus,

yes i am aware offset will move the mesh but it is hard to be accurate? it will be ni ce to have a simple accurate way to do it

cheers

A way you can try is under transform palette, S.Pivot.

Face the model towards you where you want the front to be, and get it pretty much centered in the viewport how you want it. Then Rotate it 90 degrees to a side view, and mask off the front. Then hide the back by using Hide Pt.

Then Rotate it back again to the front view to make sure you’ve got a good centered view still, then hit S.Pivot. This will set the pivot to the center of what zbrush thinks is the center of your mesh, symmetrically. It works alot of times, sometimes you don’t get the results you want, depends how asymmetrical your mesh is. Sometimes it nails it though and restores the center point very accurately.

Probably the newly released “Surprising Tools!” could be the ultimate help here…
